Materials: blackboard; table cloth with paper plates, forks and knives; happy and sad faces;

flashcards, CD; colored chalk

Assumptions: The students may:

Be familiar with the vocabulary related to the topic;

Have difficulty in pronouncing the words correctly.

Stages of the new lesson

I. WARM UP

Aims: - to warm students up;

to create an English language atmosphere

help students to feel relaxed

to raise their interest

Procedure: Teacher greets the students. Teacher brings in several food items in a bag. She

approaches a student and asks him to pick something from the bag without looking. She then

asks the student to give her the food item and she places it on the table. T.approaces a couple of

more students to do the same thing.

Interaction: T – Ss; Ss – T

Timing: 5 minutes

II. LEAD IN

Aims: - to introduce students the new topic

Procedure: By the end of the activity there is a table cloth and the plate with forks and knives on

the top of it. T points to the food item, names them and asks students to repeat after her.

Timing: 4 minutes

III. PRESENTATION

Activity 1

Aims: - recall vocabulary related to likes and dislikes

Understand instructions;

Create a relaxed a positive atmosphere

Learn new language structure: I like ……; I don’t like …….

Procedure: Teacher divides the blackboard into two sections: LIKES on the left and DISLIKES

on the right. In the first column teacher draws a smiley face and in the second column she draws

a sad face. First the teacher places food items in the LIKE column and then she places food

items in the DON’T LIKE column.

Activity 2

Aim: - to give a controlled practice of the structure I like; I don’t like

Procedure: T. puts the students into pairs. They are going to make sentences using the food and

drink items on the board. T. models first with a student so everyone understands what to do. T

says banana choosing an item from the board.. The student has to make a sentence. Then in pairs

students take turns in choosing a food item for their partner to make a sentence about.

e.g. Student A: cheese

Student B: I like cheese.

Interaction: T – Ss; Ss – Ss

Timing: 7 minutes

Activity 3

Aim: - to improve the student’s listening ad reading skills

To interact with each other

Procedure: Teacher writes the title I LIKE PIZZA on the blackboard and near the title she draws

a pizza. Then she asks the students to open their books on page 45. T. reads the lesson aloud

twice and the students repeat after her. She then asks the students to perform the lesson giving

each student a role.

1. PRODUCTION

Activity 1

Aim: - to improve their writing ability

Procedure: T asks students to have a look on page 46. At exercise one there are four pupils who

like different kind of food. They will have to look at the pictures and make simple sentences

about the kind of food each pupil likes.

e.g. Ben likes pizza.

Mary likes chips.

Eddy likes hamburgers.

Grandma likes salad.

Interaction: T – Ss

Timing: 8 minutes

Activity 2

Aims: - to develop their writing skills;

To repeat and consolidate the language

Procedure: T. gives each student a worksheet that contains two exercises. In the first exercise

they will have to the name of the food under each picture. In the second exercise they are given a

chain and the students will have to find 10 kinds of food in the chain. T. asks the students to

work in pairs.

V. FEEDBACK

Aims: - to reinforce the learning that has taken place;

to change lesson’s pace;

to have fun.

Procedure: Teacher gives students order to DO things if they like different food.

e.g. If you like pizza/ chicken/ chocolate/ cakes – clap your hands/ jump/ stand up/ rub your

tummy.

VI. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT

Aims:

Procedure: T asks students to draw in their notebooks 3 kinds of food that they like and 3 kinds

of food that they don’t like.
