Fewer people are participating in the Food Stamp Program

However, more people are relying on emergency food shelves to feed themselves and their families.

Many people who are eligible for food stamps are not participating in the program.

The Food Stamp Program is a nutrition assistance program that plays a vital role in helping low- income families purchase food.

The FSOEP brings Federal dollars into communities in the form of benefits where are redeemed by food stamp participants at local stores. These benefits community, State, and Nation.

For example, every $5 in new food stamp benefits generates $9.20 in total community spending.

New Eligibility System will be implemented in Dallas County January 2007

Will allow Texans to apply for services in person at more than 200 state offices, through the Internet, over the phone and by fax or mail.
