The Dominican is an elegant place in the Rue Léopold behind the theatre La Monnaie. Heigh ceilings and cloisters incorporated into the design of the hotel are reminiscent of the Dominican Ab-bey located here in the 15th century. The site of The Dominican was also home to the well-known French painter Jacques-Louis David from 1816 to 1825. After his death in Brussels in 1825, the house he lived in was named after him.David completed his last great masterpiece ‘Mars disarmed by Venus and the Three Graces’ in this house. The original façade of Jacques-Louis David’s home has remained intact and was integrated into the design of The Dominican.

The original painting can be seen in the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
