Outcome 1During this block you will need to demonstrate knowledge of the factors that impact on performance in physical activities by:

1.1 Describe a method used to identify factors impacting on performance.

(What methods did you use to analyse physical, skill-related and mental aspects of fitness required for football?)

1.2 Describe the impact of two factors on performance.

(How does physical, skill- related and mental fitness affect your performance in football?)

1.3 Identify a factor that affects performance and describe an approach to develop this.

(What aspects of fitness is your main weakness and how could you train to improve it?)

1.1 Types and aspects of fitness

During your football block you will analyse the effect of physical and skill-related fitness on your overall performance.

Fitness is the ability to meet the demands of the activity and the environment in which you are participating. To say that someone is fit is too general a term. When we look at fitness for effective performance in activities we see it is much more specific and covers a wide range of different aspects. In order to perform effectively in any activity there are 3 types of fitness.

Page 4: FOOTBALL - WordPress.com …  · Web viewSPEED:- “ the ability to ... You have analysed the impact of speed, power, agility and reaction time within football, now you will test

National 4/5 Football Booklet

If any one type of fitness is lacking then your performance will not be fully effective.

1.1 Aspects of fitnessThe two main areas of fitness we will look at for football are physical and skill-related fitness. Each type of fitness has several aspects of fitness with in it. TASK 1Complete the table below by writing the following aspects of fitness under the appropriate type of fitness:-

1.1 Analysing DataYour level of fitness is a major factor that affects your performance. If you struggle with particular aspects of fitness then you will struggle to perform well in football. This will limit your effectiveness to perform skills, keep up with play and contribute effectively to the team.

You will now analyse some of the aspects of fitness that are essential to your performance in football and will be able to recognise whether or not these aspects are strengths or weaknesses for you.

1.1 Method of gathering data within the activityMATCH ANALYSIS

This is a sheet that is completed either as you play (a classmate, teacher or coach can fill it in) or afterwards when you use a video camera to watch yourself back. This can be used for all sports in a variety of ways. Each sheet will have a selection of times along the top and a variety of skills (passing, dribbling, shooting etc) or physical work rate (run, jog, walk etc) down the side. The information gathered is based on fact.

Match Analysis 1

SPEED:- “the ability to cover a distance or perform a movement in a short time.”

During a 40 minute (2x20 min halves) game of football you will be videoed by the teacher. Once the videoing is completed you will be required to analyse your performance by completing the following match analysis.

Walk

To complete you must analyse your movement during the game. Each time you see yourself complete a movement, short sprint, long sprint, run, jog or walk, within a specific time frame you must put a tick in the appropriate box.

E.G. if you did a short sprint 7mins into the game

1.1 Method of gathering data out with the activityYou have analysed the impact of speed, power, agility and reaction time within football, now you will test these aspects of fitness using standardised test. This will give you a score that you can compare with national averages and will let you know how much of a strength of weakness the aspect of fitness is.

STANDARDISED TEST

This is the name given to tests that are always set up and completed the same way every time. This means that they are done the same way around the world. There are many tests like this that can be used to measure aspects of fitness, such as the Leger Test or Cooper Test for cardio respiratory endurance. There are also standardised tests that look at skills and techniques for example the French Short Serve test. Information gathered from standardised tests gives us factual information.

Test 1 – 35m Sprint Speed Test

SPEED:- “the ability to cover a distance or perform a movement in a short time.”

The objective of the sprint speed test is to assess the athlete's sprint acceleration over 35 meters.

Cones set out 35m apart.

Athlete sprints as fast as they can from 1st set through the 2nd

set.

Teacher/ class mate uses stop watch to time each run.

Attempt the test 3 times and record result.

Have 5 minute break between each attempt.

Use the fastest time to asses performance against national norms.

On “Go” athlete jumps to their feet and runs around the cones following the route shown in diagram1.

Teacher/ class mate uses a stopwatch to time the run.

Use fastest time to assess against national norms.

POWER:- “Is the combination of speed and strength, explosive movement .”

The objective of the Sargent Jump is to measure and develop leg power.

Athlete stands side onto the wall, both feet on the ground, reaches up as high as possible with one hand and marks the wall with the tips of the fingers (M1).

The athlete from a static position jumps as high as possible and marks the wall with the chalk on his fingers (M2).

Teacher/ class mate measures and records the distance between M1 and M2.

The athlete repeats the test 3 times.

Calculate the average distance and assess against national norms.

REACTION TIME:- “is the time taken between the recognition of a signal and the start of the movement.”

The objective of the Ruler Drop Test is to assess the athlete’s reaction time.

Ruler is held by teacher/ class mate between the index finger and thumb of the athlete's dominant hand, the top of the athlete's thumb is level with the zero centimetre line on the ruler.

Athlete instructed to catch the ruler as soon as possible after it has been released.

Ruler released and the athlete catches the ruler between their index finger and thumb as quick as possible.

The distance between the bottom of the ruler and the top of the athlete's thumb where the ruler has been caught is recorded.

The test is repeated 2 more times and the average value used in the assessment.

1.1 Describe the impact of factors on a performance.

Collating the results.

Now that you have collected some information on your performance you need to analyse the results. ‘Collating’ means analysing the results and working out which aspects of fitness are your strengths and which are your weaknesses.

Which aspect of fitness was highlighted as your main strength from the match analysis and test results?
