From: Kelli Williams, Chief Communications Officer City of Bartlesville Date: March 3, 2016 For release: Immediate FOP names Johnson 2015 Officer of the Year Bartlesville Police Department officer Steven Johnson has been named 2015 Officer of the Year by the local Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 117. Johnson began his career with the BPD in 2008 after having served for seven years with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. He currently works the “Baker shift” — or day shift — in the BPD Patrol Division. As a fourth generation law enforcement officer, Johnson’s roots in public service run deep. His father, Steve Johnson Sr., is the undersheriff of Washington County, having retired from the BPD in 2007 after 25 years of service. Johnson’s grandfather, the late Jack Johnson, also retired from BPD after 22 years and served as Washington County undersheriff until his retirement in 2002. Johnson’s great-grandfather, the late Lawrence Lelsey Payne, began the tradition, beginning his law enforcement career in 1941. Johnson’s mother is Tammy Johnson, of Copan. Johnson grew up in Copan and graduated high school in 2000. He married to Renee Johnson in 2009. The couple have one son, Teagan Johnson. Johnson was recognized during a banquet held Friday in his honor. -30-
