Faith in Our Future Planning Initiative: An Update from Cohort 19 Cohort 19 team representatives
from the parish communities of St. Mark in Sea Girt, St. Catharine-St. Margaret in Spring Lake, St. Rose in Belmar, and St. Teresa in Bradley Beach/Avon met again on July 17th. Here is a quick summary of the meeting and our activities to date: Cohort 19 received a positive
response from the Diocesan Implementation Commission regarding our Year 3 goals (July 2019-July 2020) of the Faith in Our Future Initiative. Of particular note, Cohort 19 has been asked by the Commission to reach out to Holy Innocents Parish in Neptune to discuss the possibility of formally joining our Cohort. We will also be expanding our collaboration with St. Denis Parish in Manasquan.
We were commended by the Commission for our continuing efforts to improve communications, break down silos, and share best practices across our Cohort community. During the next year, we plan to have our respective Parish Councils and Pastoral Councils get together and expand our dialogue. We will also explore ways of potentially sharing our facilities, review our Mass schedules in light of the Cohort’s seasonal needs and the future availability of weekend help,
and assess whether our current Confession schedules are meeting parishioner needs.
Plans are underway to celebrate a Cohort 19 Mass at the Gazebo in Belmar on September 8, 2019, at 10 AM with Bishop O’Connell. Music for the Mass will be coordinated by the music directors from each of our 4 parishes. Youth volunteers are needed for both event setup and cleanup and we also need Sacristans, Altar Servers, Lectors, Co-Celebrants, and Eucharistic Ministers from each of the 4 parishes. Please look for additional details in your respective Parish Bulletins on how you can help make this a successful event.
Planning is underway to hold a Lenten Mission for Cohort 19 in March 2020 and will likely involve a 3 night, Monday-Wednesday evening format. Please stay tuned for additional details in your respective Parish Bulletins in the months ahead.

Altar Servers wanted
A J o b s o b i g o n l y a k i d c a n d o i t !
Msgr. Flynn would like to invite your children to become altar servers here at St. Mark’s. Altar servers are an invaluable support to the priest during the Mass as well as contributing to the enrichment of the server by allowing them to get fully involved and understand the Mass better. The Ministry requires a sincere commitment on your part as well, but it is a beautiful way for your children to participate in the life of the church and learn some fantastic life skills. Msgr. Flynn hopes you will consider this invitation and speak with your children about
becoming more involved in our Church community.
R e q u i r e m e n t s :

Natural Family Planning Awareness Week
Is Natural Family Planning really reliable? YES!! Modern methods of NFP are not at all related to the “rhythm method” of decades ago! Many years of medical and scientific research have helped couples and medical professionals to more fully understand a woman’s complex fertility cycles in order to provide very reliable methods of family planning AND since a woman’s reproductive health can affect many other aspects of health, today’s NFP methods offer better comprehensive women’s healthcare. NFP is not only reliable, but it is the only authentic method of family planning. Since NFP methods are not “contraception,” their effectiveness works both ways for help in achieving or avoiding pregnancy. When wishing to avoid pregnancy for a serious reason, studies show that couples who follow their NFP method's guidelines correctly, and all of the time, achieve effectiveness rates of 97-99%. For information about Natural Family Planning education in our area, contact Peg Hensler at 609-403-7156 or [email protected].

Hope all of you are having a wonderful summer!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here are some CYO updates: NB: Incoming high school students may also attend our summer service.
CYO summer service will be at Care One at Wall nursing home every Tuesday AM in August. We visit the elderly there and run exercise classes for them. Please sign up with me if you are interested. Email [email protected] or text/call me at 732-685-6011.
Notice to CYO parents: Every year, because we have between 50-100 teens join our CYO, we need additional supervisors at our meetings and outside events. We have had some wonderful parents assist with this. It normally only requires 2-3 times a year that you are needed but it assures us that our teens will be well supervised and safe. Please call Donna O’Meara at the Rectory at 732-449-6364 ext. 100 if you are interested in being a CYO volunteer. I promise you that you will love every minute you spend with our CYO angels! Thanks!
God Bless, Mrs. Reilly
