Dear Colleague:

After 15 years of acclaimed success, we are thrilled to present our 16th Annual Shared Services for Finance & Accounting Summit---which this year will once again prove to be a must attend conference for those who are working in – or are currently building – finance and accounting shared services organizations (FSSOs).

With all shared services programs, reducing costs and increasing productivity is of course top of mind. However, doing so is not a simple task---especially in the F&A space considering the sensitive nature of the financial transactions being processed. How an FSSO’s program is launched, established, managed, and developed for future growth directly impacts an organization’s financial integrity and health.

SSON’s 16th Annual Shared Services for Finance & Accounting Summit was designed to address the challenges and provide solutions within this industry, through thought-provoking discussions on “how to do more with less”, so as to enable an organization to drive more value and process improvement into their FSSO.

Furthermore, this year’s conference will be a perfect opportunity to:

• Better understand a wide variety of techniques to establish and manage a successful Change Management program, such as implementing effective employee training and development initiatives, user-friendly technology platforms, and ways to effectively “brand” your FFSO a friend versus foe

• Learn more about how to effectively source and maintain strong internal and external partnerships so to increase your FSSO’s productivity and reduce costs, with such partners as: your outsourcing, GPO, automation, and other service providers

• Explore effective Project Management methods that will enable your teams to maximize their efficiency---and in turn reduce waste, lower costs, and increase transactions processed, focusing on such matters as: establishing sign off buy-in, expediting speedier approvals, alternative budget allocation options, and much more

• Examine innovative technologies that will enable your FSSO to be more competitive in today’s highly cost-conscious shared services business environment, such as: e-invoicing; paperless & integrated software systems; mobile payments; and other automation tools to streamline your back office transactional processes

• Dig deep into topics vital to your F&A SS’s continued success such as: Developments and Trends in Master Data Management; Supplier Dynamic Discounting; RPA; Centers of Excellence; Fraud & Money Laundering Prevention; Data Analytics; Talent Management; Working Capital Management; Global Process Ownership; and much more

We look forward to seeing you in Dallas this June!

Sincerely,

Jules Miller Conference Producer

10:30AM WORKSHOP B: HOW TO DETERMINE WHICH METRICS TO TRACK AND HOW TO UTILIZE DATA TO ENSURE CONTINUED PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

Evaluating obtained metrics are certainly valuable to all organizations. However, unless you have a clear idea of which metrics your FSSO departments should track and analyze, valuable data will go unused, equating to unnecessary waste in both labor costs and untapped resources. To ensure your FSSO is maximizing its business intelligence, you must develop a metrics analytics end-to-end management plan.

In this session we will:

• Discuss the most common metrics to measure and if they are indeed the proper metrics your FSSO should track----and if not, what metrics would be of most use to your organization

• Examine metric analysis strategies that provide impactful data collection and improved service expectations and deliverables, such as scorecard, surveys, and more

• Explore innovative technologies to streamline data collections and analysis, such as dashboard reporting and data visualization

2:30pm WORKSHOP D: UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OF GPO & HOW TO IMPLEMENT ONE INTO YOUR FSSO

As you may already know, a Global Process Owner (GPO) can be a very senior-level executive job role that requires the individual to spearhead a structured FSSO initiative of process improvement that takes into account all or some of its FSSO business activities (i.e. - P2P, AP, etc.) as interconnected components in an end-to-end process that in turn is intended to result in significant value to the FSSO.

A GPO’s area of focus and concern is to improve collaboration and value to a FSSO so to enhance its end-to-end processes while improving performance and control.

In this session, we will:

• Discuss the various GPO models and organizational structures and discuss which model types might be best for your FSSO

• Examine the pros and cons of integrating GPO job functions into your executive management’s current job role

10:00AM ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION: IMPROVING OCR ACCURACY WITH AUTOMATED ESCALATIONS & MACHINE LEARNING

At the heart of every shared services F&A operation is a toolkit for processing data, and one of those vital tools is lacking: optical character recognition (OCR). OCR is meant to reduce the cost and increase the accuracy of processing unstructured data, like invoices, but the number of exceptions creates a costly demand on human workers.

So how can you improve OCR accuracy and the speed of data extraction when your teams are already at capacity? The answer is machine learning (ML). By pairing ML-

enabled OCR with automated escalations to human workers, OCR gets more accurate over time, improving a wide variety of F&A processes.

In this session, we will cover:

• What analysts are saying about smart automation tools

• How combining machine tools with human intelligence increases process accuracy and capacity and drives down costs

• How to identify which processes can benefit most from smart automation

• Best practices for a successful deployment

• And most importantly, the questions you have and want answered about the next generation of smart automation

TRACK A: PLANNING & LAUNCHING YOUR FSSO TRACK B: TAKING YOUR MATURE FSSO TO THE NEXT STAGE IN ITS EVOLUTION

1:45PM PANEL DISCUSSION: HOW TO DETERMINE WHICH FSSO MODEL TYPE IS BEST FOR YOUR BUSINESSOne of the most critical decisions that must be made when developing a FSSO is deciding upon which organizational model is best suited for your organization. To determine which model is most ideal for your back-office financial processes, you must ask yourself several key questions, such as: Is there an immediate demand from my business divisions to transition into a FSSO?, Which business units will it serve?, Should it be a centralized FSSO or a hybrid?, Will the benefits outweigh the financial and time investment?, Do we have the internal infrastructure capabilities and other support systems to warrant a FSSO?One model type may work very well for some organizations, yet may not offer the same rewards to another. A “one size fits all” approach simply doesn’t work when planning, launching and managing a successful FFSO.In this session, we will explore:

• Various model types and the pros & cons of each• What are the logistical, financial, human capital, location,

and other considerations that need to be examined before deciding upon a specific FSSO model type?

• What’s the expected ROI for each model type?Moderator:

12:15PM HOW TO MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE ANTI-FRAUD SYSTEMS WITHIN YOUR FSSO PROGRAMS

Financial fraud, may it be credit, money laundering, tax invasion, misappropriation of funds, or other forms of illicit activity, must be dealt with head-on to ensure your organization’s legal and financial safety.

Within a FSSO business model which consists of complex and highly-sensitive infrastructures that relate to your organization’s overall finances (and many times

compliance matters), it is indeed possible to maintain an effective FSSO anti-fraud plan, that is, if you have the necessary controls in place to monitor, record, analyze, and in turn process financial reports that deal with a multitude of fraudulent matters.

In this session, we will discuss such matters as:

• How to develop a Check List of which FSSO processes need to be tracked, how often, and who should govern the process and actions taken thereafter

• Innovative technologies that can improve your FSSO’s methods of tracking and reporting financial fraud within your business operations

• How to track fraudulent activity trends across various locations and business units---and the best methods to reduce continued fraud

industry network and continue discussing the hot topics.

MAIN CONFERENCE DAY TWO continued

TRACK A: PLANNING & LAUNCHING YOUR FSSO TRACK B: TAKING YOUR MATURE FSSO TO THE NEXT STAGE IN ITS EVOLUTION

2:15PM BAKER HUGHES INTERVIEW: UTILIZING DIGITAL PLATFORMS TO ADD VALUE TO YOUR FFSO’S PROCESSESIn today’s ever-evolving digital landscape, keeping up with the latest technologies that can provide your FSSO with increased productivity, data accessibility, transparency, accounting accuracy, security, and can also streamline your back-office transactions is certainly a sound business decision in respect to adding value to your FFSO.

The benefits of going digital, either by e-invoicing, mobile payments, or other technologies currently on the market, certainly outweighs the roadblocks that may come your way when doing so, such as: the time and cost spend related to transitioning to a digital FSSO business unit.

In this session, we will explore:

• Various digital technologies and how they can be utilized by your newly established or launched FSSO

PANEL DISCUSSION: HOW TO MANAGE EFFECTIVE OUTSOURCING RELATIONSHIPSAs a mature FSSO, your operations very well might have an outsourcing component its overall service delivery. Or perhaps it doesn’t, and your executive management teams are currently considering outsourcing for its business unit/s. Nevertheless, how your FSSO sources and manages its outsourcing vendors’ relationships greatly affects your FSSO’s service outcomes---which are just one reason your organization needs to explore these relationships.

If not properly managed by effective communication and understanding between your organization and its outsourcing operations, a severe disconnect can ensue-

--and in turn your FSSO will suffer. A transparent, diligent, and flexible approach to how your FSSO manages its outsourcing operations and relationships are a value-add you simply cannot deny.

Let’s face it, the greatest take-away you can take back to your FSSO is sound advice that specifically addresses your organization’s past, current, and future challenges. This session will consist of open-forum Q&As, with the session speakers answering the top burning questions submitted earlier in the day, which may include:

• How do you determine how many employees are needed to implement or expand a successful FSSO?

• After a change management disaster, which crisis management methods can be utilized to effectively reduce further chaos (and quickly)?

• Is it better to develop a Profit Center buy-in business case internally, or is it better to hire a consultant firm to assist with your business case---or should both scenarios be applied?

• And much more!
