Online Parent Education Classes Now Available
Effective immediately, the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families (DSCYF)
has approved Online Parenting Programs as a provider of parent education in Delaware. Recognizing that
the current State of Emergency has made in-person parent education classes impossible, DSCYF has
approved its first online parent education program. With this move, parents will now be able to access
the required parent education from their homes.
As a reminder, parent education is required for all parents in divorce cases with children up to the
age of 17, all parents who are a party to a custody proceeding, and any parent in a visitation proceeding
if the opposing party is also a parent of the child.
Online Parenting Programs is currently offering two Delaware classes: Co-Parenting / Divorce
Class and Parenting Without Conflict. Parenting Without Conflict qualifies as a domestic violence related
class. Parents must attend a domestic violence related class if either parent has a criminal conviction for
a crime against the other parent or if there was ever a Protection from Abuse Order between the parents.
Parents without a domestic violence history are also welcome to participate in the Parenting Without
Conflict class.
As with an in-person class, Online Parenting Programs will provide the parent with a certificate
upon completion. The parent will need to file the certificate with Family Court.
