SITE NOTICE
APPLICATION TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY FOR A WASTE WATER DISCHARGE LICENCE
outh County Council, County Hall, Millennium Centre, Dundalk, Co. Louth is making an applicatio ~n to the
Environmental Protection Agency (the Agency), in accordance with the Waste Water Discharge
(Authorisation) Regulations, 2007 (S.I. No. 684 of 2007) for a licence authorising the waste water discharges
from the waste water works sewing the agglomeration of Dundalk Town, in the administrative area of
Dundalk Town Council; and the northwestern, western and southwestern environs of Dundalk (bounded to
the west by the M I motorway) in the administrative area of Louth County Council. The agglomeration is
sewed by the Dundalk Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), Soldiers Point, Point Road, Dundalk (Grid I
deference 308066E, 307634N). Dundalk WWTP is a two stage Secondary Treatment Plant, consisting of
an initial high load aeration stage, with intermediate clarification, followed by a low-load aeration stage and
Final Clarification. It has been designed, by appropriate space provision for future tankage and anoxic
zones, to accommodate future Nitrogen removal. The outfall pipeline for the treated effluent from this plant,
which discharges to the Castletown Estuary (Soldiers Point, Point Road, Dundalk), is the primary discharge
point from the waste water works (Grid Reference 308179E-307807N).
The waste water works also includes storm water overflows and emergency overflows (12 in total) which
discharge to the Castletown Estuary, small tributaries to the Castletown River, the Rampart River and the
Blackwater River.
An Environmental Impact Statement for the Dundalk Waste Water Treatment Works will be submitted to the I
Agency with the application.
The following documents shall, as soon as is practicable after receipt by the Agency, be available for
inspection or purchase at the Environmental Protection Agency, PO Box 3000, Johnstown Castle Estate,
County Wexford, and at Louth County Council. County Hall, Millennium Centre, Dundalk. Co. Louth.

3. Such further information relating to the application as may be furnished to the Agency in the course
of the Agency's consideration of the application
