We congratulate all our students who receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Hoeppner last Sunday. Now that they have been sealed with the Holy Spirit, who has left an indelible mark on their souls, we pray that they would have the courage to stand fast in the faith of the Church and live their lives by giving heroic witness to the Christian faith, just as the apostles did. We also congratulate all our children who will be making their first Holy Communion this Sunday. Please keep them in your prayers as they approach this auspicious sacrament with great joy. May they receive Holy Communion every time as if it were their first and only time. You will notice as this weekend’s Masses that we have our statue of St. Philip back with us, except now he is in Technicolor. This plaster statue was from the old parish church and was brought over to the new church when it was built. It was painted white and placed on display in the Western entrance to the Church. This winter the statue was lovingly restored to full color by our own Sue Smith. We offer many thanks to her for her excellent work. The statue will remain in the Sanctuary throughout the month of May, in honor of St. Philip’s feast day which falls on May 3 rd . Please take this opportunity to cultivate a rich devotion to the patron saint of your parish, and ask his powerful intercession for all of your needs. The Blessed Apostle Saint Philip will not fail to hear the prayers of all of those who approach him with true devotion and love for Our Lord, especially those who reside in a parish of his namesake. In the Gospels, one of the few things that we hear St. Philip say to Jesus is the following: “Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied.” Let this be your own motto. On a personal note, this is my last weekend at St. Philip’s parish, and I will miss it dearly. I have met many wonderful families here and made many good friends. Thank you for all you have done to assist me in the difficult moments this year. It has been an honor to be one of your parish priests. May God bless you all. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Adam Hamness

“We have fought the battle for the ending of abortion in politics, in the press, on ground, and in every way. But prayer and fasting is the most powerful weapon in the arsenal of the church to bring forth social justice. It effects the unseen world where spiritual powers release destructive ideologies. Esther’s 3-day fast in the Bible appealed to the Supreme Court of Heaven which overruled the Supreme Court of Haman and the political death of decree of Persia against the Jews was radically reversed. Jesus fasted 40 days and broke the power of Satan himself.”

Life and Dignity Sunday Set for May 17 and 18, 2014

At the request of Bishop Hoeppner, all parishes in the Diocese of Crookston will be focusing attention on our civic responsibilities by inviting parishioners to register for the Minnesota Catholic Conference (MCC) Catholic Advocacy Network. The network is created to be a “Voice for Life and Dignity in Minnesota,” and provides resources to help the faithful analyze and discern social and political issues through a nonpartisan, Catholic lens. Next weekend there will be a one‐page explanation of the network and Life and Dignity Sunday Registration Day in our parish bulletin. Please read it and then prayerfully consider registering for the MCC Catholic Legislative Network on May 17 and 18. There is absolutely no cost to join!

Faith Formation Registration for 2014 - 2015 – grades 1 - 11 Parents do you still have your Faith Formation Registration forms at home? You can drop them off at the Parish Office or the Faith Formation Office between 8:30 – 4:30 Monday – Friday. Questions please contact Kris at 444-5849.

Set Sail for SONTREASURE ISLAND VBS AUGUST 4 - 8, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

We will have a great time with lively songs, creative crafts, exciting games, Bible stories and tasty snacks —all of the things that make Vacation Bible School so much fun! On top of that, children will learn about God’s amazing love. SONTREASURE ISLAND VBS is for kids three (by September 1, 2013) through 4th grade (2013 - 2014 school year). Registration Forms available in the gathering space or the Faith Formation Office. Registration deadline is July 7. Contact - Kris Jensen – 444-5849 for additional information.

We are very blessed at St. Philip’s Faith Formation to have people who are called to help our children learn and grow in the Catholic faith. They come from many walks of life: High School seniors, adults with children in Faith Formation and adults who do not. What they all have in common is a desire to guide the children along their faith journey and to share our faith and beliefs with them. We are most thankful for their dedication!
