A new Ohio Certificate of Title for motor vehicles and watercrafts was implemented at all Summit County Clerk of Courts Title Division offices in 2019.

The title rollout was in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Public Safety (DPS). The DPS distributed titles to all Ohio county clerks of court in phases. Each county began issuing the title to its customers on the date assigned to it by the DPS. The Summit County Clerk of Courts launch date was March 25, 2019.

The major differences between the previous and new title are the changes in color, size and layout. These modifications were made to support added security features as well as new content fields designed to provide more clarity for the title holder.

There has been no change in the process our office uses to issue motor vehicle titles.

You are not required to replace previously issued, valid titles, with the new version.

State of Ohio Releases New Certificate of Title

I can’t find my title.

What should I do?

If your original title is lost or destroyed you may obtain a duplicate certificate of title. You can apply for a duplicate title in any county. You will need to complete an application for certificate of title to a motor vehicle as well as provide your current vehicle registration and proper ID. There is a fee of $15 for the duplicate title. If, after issuance of the duplicate, the original is recovered, the original must be returned to our office for cancellation.
