Landforms
There are many landforms on planet Earth.
Do you know what these landforms are?
mountains and hills
mountains
A mountain is a very high area of rocky land.
A mountain has sides and a peak (top).
hills
A hill is not a mountain. They are small, curved and cute!
Volcanoes

A volcano is a hole in the ground where gas and hot rock
can come out.
Some mountains are volcanoes.
Valley
valleysA valley is a low area of land between 2 mountains.
Rivers usually run in valleys.
oceans
oceans
An ocean is a very large area of salty water.
70% of the Earth is ocean.

lakes and riversA lake is a large area of fresh (drinking) water surrounded by
land.
A river is a moving water. Rivers run into lakes and oceans.

A forest is a large area of trees.
Rainforests are warm and rainy.
plains
plainsA plain is a very wide, flat area of land. Plains are also
grasslands. We learned about them in grade one.
Plains sometimes have trees.
deserts

A desert is a wide area that has very little rain.
Deserts are sometimes plains, sometimes not.
island
islands
An island is land that has water all around it.
Japan is an island. Jeju is an island, too.
