ANFOANFO products are based on a mix of ammonium nitrate (AN) prills and fuel oil (FO). In some cases, other additives are mixed with the base formulation in order to improve the product’s water resistant and/or its adherence to up-holes.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND USE

The ANFOs are bulk explosives usually used as main charge in both open-cut and underground blasting. Forcit Explosives off ers four diff erent types of ANFOs, which are suitable for the majority of the conditions and applications found in mining, quarrying and construction operations.

ANFO is intended to be loaded into dry boreholes. This product is not water-resistant, which makes it unsuitable for wet boreholes.

ANFO 800 is less dense than the conventional ANFO. This property translates into a lower linear concentration that is highly desirable in blasting applications that seek to minimize damage and/or reduce material movement.

ANFO WR (AHTI-ANFO) is relatively moisture-resistant and is intended to be loaded into wet holes, after pumping the water out

ANFO UP-HOLE (PITO-ANFO) has a special consistency that allows successful charging of up-holes.

ANFO’S BENEFITS:

• Cost-eff ective

• Safe

• Quick to charge

• Can be charged with a pneumatic loader

STORAGE AND WEATHER RESISTANCE

The most suitable temperature for storing ANFO is between -25 °C and + 30 °C. The products can be used within 6 months from the date of manufacture, provided that the product has been stored at a suitable temperature and in a dry place. Large temperature variations during storage are to be avoided since recrystallization of the AN prills is induced, degrading the quality of the product over time. Long-term storage of the product in temperatures that are lower or higher than the recommended range negatively aff ects long-term stability, reduces sensitivity and shortens the product’s lifespan.

USAGE AND HANDLING SAFETY

ANFOs are bulk-type explosives and their use may be restricted by national legislation.

ANFO explosives require an eff ective booster to ensure a proper ignition. Suitable boosters are cast boosters, high explosive primers, dynamite and emulsion cartridges (such as Fordyn, Kemix A and Forprime 25).

ANFO can be charged either by pouring it directly from the sack or using a pneumatic loader. ANFO UP HOLE must only be charged with a pneumatic loader t in order to ensure adherence to the walls of the borehole. A pneumatic loader is also recommended to be used for ANFO WR, since it secures a higher and consistent loading. Using ANFOs in wet conditions is not recommended since it negatively aff ect the product performance and may produce harmful fumes. Skin contact must be avoided by using protective gloves. Specialised ANFOs contain small amounts of harmless additives.

The ANFOs manufactured by Forcit have a CE marking.

KEMIITTI Kemiitti 510 is a chemically sensitized emulsion explosive doped with ammonium nitrate prills (0–30 %). The product is manufactured by advanced charging unit that transports and blends intermediary products at the charging site. After mixing the product, this is pumped through a hose directly into the borehole where it sensi-tises into a fi nished explosive between 10 and 30 minutes.

USE AND SUITABILITY

Kemiitti 510 is suitable for all kinds of applications in open cut mining, especially in those operations that require quick charging and/or good water-resistance. The product is grea-se-like in consistency and white or yellowish in colour. The capacity of raw materials containers on the vehicle allows the manufacturing of between 12 and 14 tonnes of fi nished explosive at once. Local regulations must be taken into con-sideration when using Kemiitti 510.

MAIN ADVANTAGES OF KEMIITTI

• Reliable loading and performance in both dry and wet blast holes.

• Capable of displacing the water inside the holes.

• Density can be adjusted to suit the conditions of the site.

• Environmental eff ects are minor, when used correctly.

• The need for storing and handling explosives on site decreases.

• Only the necessary amount of product is delivered to the site.

STORAGE AND WEATHER-RESISTANCE

The product must not be manufactured for storage. Kemiitti 510 is pumped straight into the borehole where it can re-main loaded for 3 months from the date of charging without losing its original properties. The product is almost insolub-le in water and can withstand negative temperatures up to -25 ºC.

USAGE AND HANDLING SAFETY

Kemiitti 510 is suitable for use in all ground conditions and within borehole of up to 30 metres deep. Kemiitti 510 is detonated using both detonator and booster with a detonation velocity exceeding 4 800 m/s. Using a detonating cord for igniting the booster is not recommended.

On site, the charger must ensure that the in-hole boosters are tightened inside the emulsion by pulling lightly on the detonator cables. The charger must also ensure that the emulsion is sensitized for the required time before stemming the borehole. When using back-up boosters on top of the hole, they must be gently pushed inside the emulsion using a tamping pole.

Even though the chemicals used as raw material for Kemiitti 510 are non-classifi ed with safety purposes, it is recommended to avoid continuous skin contact by using suitable protective gloves.

KEMIITTI Kemiitti 810 is an emulsion explosive che-mically sensitized from emulsion matrix. The product is charged by pumping it into up-, down- and horizontal boreholes using underground emulsion charging units. The product sensitises into a fi nished explosive within 10 to 30 minutes of charging.

USE AND SUITABILITY

Kemiitti 810 is suitable for all kinds of applications in underground mining, especially in those operations that require quick charging and/or good water-resistance. It is grease-like in consistency and white or yellowish in colour. The raw materials for Kemiitti 810 (matrix and additive) are delivered to the customer in transport tanks or IBCs. Local regulations must be taken into consideration when using Kemiitti 810.

MAIN ADVANTAGES OF KEMIITTI

• Charging is fast and the charge concentration is adjustable to each borehole. This feature enables the light charging of contour holes which ensures the achievement of the desired excavation profi les.

• Suitable for both face and production charging.

• The need for storing and handling explosives on site decreases.

• Environmental eff ects are minor, when used correctly

• Increases work hygiene.

STORAGE AND WEATHER-RESISTANCE

The product must not be manufactured for storage. Kemiitti 810 is pumped straight into the borehole where it can remain loaded is for 3 months from the date of charging without losing its original properties. The raw materials of Kemiitti 810 (matrix and additive) are stored in closed containers on the vehicle designed with this purpose by the manufacturer. The viscosity of the product slightly increases when the temperature drops. Extremely low or high temperatures may spoil the matrix.

USAGE AND HANDLING SAFETY

All persons charging with Kemiitti 810 must be properly trained by the manufacturer or their representative. A powerful booster (e.g. Forprime 25 g) is required to ignite the product and a blasting cap are always necessary. Kemiitti 810 can be charged directly into water-fi lled boreholes without the need for blowing.

The ammonium nitrate in the matrix reacts with alkaline substances (e.g. cement and water glass). The reaction releases ammonia, which has a pungent odour. The matrix and additive must, under no circumstances, be mixed with other substances or be handled using dirty equipment. Even though the chemicals used as raw material for Kemiitti 810 matrix are non-classifi ed with safety purpose, it is recommended to avoid continuous skin contact by using suitable protective gloves.

It must be remembered that this is an explosive which, if used incorrectly, may detonate with devastating consequences. All regulations concerning the handling and use of explosives must be followed. Local regulations must be followed in the disposal of the product.

KEMIX A & KEMIX PIPECHARGES

Kemix A and Kemix pipecharges are emulsion explosives wrapped in plastic cylinders. The 17 and 51millimetre diame-ter Kemix pipecharges are manufactured with standard pure microsphere-sensitized emulsion whereas the larger Kemix A pi-pecharges contain aluminium powder to increase explosive energy.

USE AND SUITABILITY

Kemix and Kemix A pipecharges are suitable for all types of blasts in quarries and mine sites where a precise amount of explosive is required to ensure the success of the blasting process. The pipecharges are suitable for smooth wall blasting and pre-splitting applications in both open-cut excavations and drifting.

MAIN ADVANTAGES OF KEMIX A PIPECHARGES

• The pipes are easy and quick to connect to each other, as the end of the pipe is expanded

• Good water- and frost-resistance

• Usage depth in water up to 80 metres

STORAGE AND WEATHER-RESISTANCE

The most suitable temperature for storing Kemix A and Kemix pipecharges is between -25 °C … + 30 °C. The product can be used within 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored according to specifi cations in a dry place. Signifi cant and repeated variations in temperature are to be avoided during storage. Long-term storage of the product in temperatures beyond the recommended range negatively aff ects stability and ignition sensitivity as well as it shortens the product’s lifespan.

Kemix A and Kemix Pipecharges, when stored in the right conditions, are highly water-resistant and detonate according to specifi cations even after long exposure to water.

USE AND HANDLING SAFETY

Kemix A and Kemix pipecharges can be initiated using an EN Class 3 blasting cap (detonator #8) or detonating cord (recommended ≥10 g/m).

Emulsion pipecharges have relatively low detonation transmission capability. Therefore, it is very important to connect the pipes carefully. When connecting, the pipes must be pressed together carefully, and the joint must be intact. Especially when loading into wet holes, the water should not get between the pipes.

If detonating cord is used to ensure detonation, a knot must be made in each of the pipes from the detonating cord (see picture). The use of detonating cord is recommended for high benches to ensure a stable and reliable detonation along the entire borehole.

Even though the chemicals used as raw material are as harmless as possible, it is recommended to avoid continuous skin contact by using protective gloves.

It must be remembered that this is an explosive which, if used incorrectly, may detonates with devastating consequences. All regulations concerning the handling and use of explosives must be followed. Local regulations must be followed in the disposal of the product.

KEMIX A, KEMIX

Kemix A cartridges are aluminium-contai-ning emulsion explosives wrapped in plastic fi lm. Aluminium is added in order to increa-se the explosive energy. Cartridges without aluminium are available upon special order with the product name Kemix. Kemix explo-sives without aluminium are recommended for use in mines in where there is a danger of sulphur dust explosions.

USE AND SUITABILITY

Kemix A cartridges are suitable for all kinds of blasting ap-plications. The cartridges can be used as either base or col-umn charges and are extremely well suited for underground blasting. Kemix A cartridges with a diameter of over 40 mm can be used as boosters for ANFOs and emulsion-based bulk explosives. Due to the cartridges being highly water-resist-ant and because of their specifi c weight, they are suitable for blasting applications where the explosive is exposed to water. Kemix A is completely insoluble to water, making it an environmentally friendly explosive. It is also resistant to temperatures below zero degrees Celsius.

MAIN ADVANTAGES OF KEMIX A

• It is highly versatile and therefore can be used in a range of blasting applications.

• It functions reliably in both dry and wet blastholes

• The maximum operating depth in water for microballons-sensitised products (Ø 32 and 36 mm) is up to 80 metres.

STORAGE AND WEATHER-RESISTANCE

The most suitable temperature for storing Kemix A is be-tween -25 °C and + 30 °C. The product can be used within 12 months from the date of manufacture, when stored under commentated conditions in a dry place. Signifi cant and repeated variations in temperature are to be avoided during storage. Long-term storage of the product in temperatures beyond the recommended range negatively aff ects stability and ignition sensitivity as well as shortens the product’s lifespan.

Kemix A that has been stored in the right conditions is high-ly water-resistant and detonates according to specifi cations even after long exposure to water.

USE AND HANDLING SAFETY

Kemix A cartridges detonate reliably using EN Class 3 (det-onator #8) blasting caps. The use of detonating cord for igniting Kemix A or for ensuring fl ash-over is not recom-mended.

Kemix A cartridges can be charged directly into boreholes fi lled with water. However, it must be noted that the car-tridge may expand when hitting water layers at the bottom of deep down-holes with only a little water on the bottom. This situation may prevent the cartridge from sinking and reaching the bottom creating gaps that result in disconti-nuities in the explosive columns. A vertical free fall of over 10 metres adds to the above-mentioned risk and the risk applies to practically all cartridged explosives. In these cases, special attention must be paid to the design and execution of the charging process.

If the intention is to use Kemix A cartridges in a so-called distributed charge, the technical customer service of Forcit can be contacted for advice. When using a distributed charge, the detonation of the fi rst charge may cause a pressure shock which weakens the explosive characteris-tics of the second charge. This happens if e.g. the interme-diate stemming doesn’t hold.

Even though the chemicals used as raw material are as harmless as possible, it is recommended to avoid continu-ous skin contact by using protective gloves.

It must be remembered that this is an explosive which, if used incorrectly, may explode with devastating conse-quences. All regulations concerning the handling and use of explosives must be followed. Local regulations must be followed in the disposal of the product. Please contact a local Forcit representative for information on safe practic-es.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND USE

Off shore Kemiitti is well-suited for underwater rock blasting, especially in those applications that require a high charge density, a quick charging process and a bulk product that resists both water and hydrostatic pressure. Off shore Kemiitti is delivered to the customer in plastic IBC-containers of 1000 kg of maximum capacity that are approved for this purpose which facilitates storage and mobility of the product.

MAIN ADVANTAGES OF OFFSHORE KEMIITTI:

• High charge density

• Strength of explosive is high

• Water resistance

• Increases work hygiene and handling safety

• Environmental eff ects are minor, when used correctly

STORAGE LIFE AND WEATHER RESISTANCE

The optimal storage temperature for Off shore Kemiitti is between -25°C and + 30°C. The storage life of the product is 6 months from the manufacturing date, when the product has been stored at a suitable temperature and in dry conditions. Large variations in temperature should be avoided during storage since the quality of the product may deteriorate over time. Low temperatures contribute to and increase in the viscosity of the product which can aff ect the charging operation. Long-term storage at a temperature outside the recommended range will shortens the product’s storage life and negatively aff ect its performance.

When stored in suitable conditions, Off shore Kemiitti has excellent water resistance, so the product will detonate according to specifi cations even after prolonged exposure to the impact of water.

PRODUCT USE AND HANDLING SAFETY

Off shore Kemiitti is an explosive that is transferred from the transport container to the charging unit and then pumped into the boreholes. It is recommended to carefully review all working instructions and safety equipment for pumping with the explosive’s manufacturer before any work is com-menced. The required charging unit must be approved by the authorities.

Both a detonator cap and a booster (min. 100 g) with a minimum velocity of detonation of 5000 m/s must be used for igniting Off shore Kemiitti. It is not recommended to use a detonating cord for igniting the booster.

Although the raw materials are as harmless as possible, it is recommended to avoid continuous contact with the skin by using protective gloves. If the explosive comes into contact with the eyes, rinse them with plenty of water.

Whenever handling the product, it must be remembered that this is an explosive which, if used incorrectly, may detonate with devastating consequences. All regulations concerning the handling and use of explosives must be followed. Local regulations must be followed in the disposal of the product.

FORDYNFordyn dynamite is a gelatine explosive containing nitroglycol and ammonium nitrate.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND USE

Fordyn is suitable for all types of blasting under normal conditions. Fordyn’s characteristics make it particularly suitable for as a base charge for open-cut mining, underwater charging, channelling and for blasting in populated areas. Ø 43 mm and larger Fordyn cartridges are suitable as boosters for bulk-type explosives, such as ANFOs and emulsions, thanks to their high detonation velocity. Fordyn is also suitable for small and precise blasting, where extremely small amounts of explosives are used, as the material is easy to cut into small doses.

FORDYN’S BENEFITS:

• Suitable for all kinds of excavation work as a base charge, column charge or booster.

• Thanks to its plasticity small charges and strong compacting are possible.

• Good water-resistance (2-3 days).

• Excellent chargeability into water-fi lled boreholes.

STORAGE AND WEATHER RESISTANCE

The most suitable temperature for storing Fordyn is between -25 °C and + 30 °C. The product can be used within 24 months from the date of manufacture, as long as the product has been stored at a suitable temperature and in a dry place. Large temperature variations are to be avoided during storage. Long-term storage of the product in temperatures that are lower or higher than the optimum negatively aff ects long-term stability and ignition sensitivity and shortens the product’s lifespan.

USAGE AND HANDLING SAFETY

The main usages of Fordyn are underwater blasting up to 25 metres and use as base charge and detonator in open-cut blasting. Fordyn is a gelatine explosive which enables a high explosive power in the borehole.

A Fordyn cartridge can be dropped in the borehole if the hole is no deeper than 30 metres. If the diameter of the cartridge is almost the same as the diameter of the borehole, the hole must be no deeper than 50 metres. A cartridge used as a detonator must however be carefully lowered into the hole using the ignition cable or other piece of string.

Fordyn has a CE marking and fulfi ls the safety demands of the EU directive.

The nitroglycol contained in Fordyn may cause headache and reduced blood pressure in case of skin contact or inhalation. Skin contact must be avoided by using protective gloves.

It must be remembered that this is an explosive which, if used incorrectly, may explode with devastating consequences. All regulations concerning the handling and use of explosives must be followed. Local regulations must be followed in the disposal of the product.

F-CORD , F-CORD TCORD, DETONATING, FLEXIBLE.DCE (BAM, GERMANY)PVTT /, PVTT /

DETONATINGCORD F-CORD F-cord 10 is a fl exible plastic-coated detonating cord. Its explosive is penthrite (PETN). The coating is PVC plastic or, in the case of F-Cord 10T, an eco-friendlier thermoplastic.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND USE

Detonating cord is used in both precision stopping as well as in smooth wall blasting, when several holes are to be simultaneously detonated. Typically, the above mentioned work utilises charges which are so small that the transmission and continuation of the detonation is uncertain without a detonating cord. The thermoplastic-coated F-Cord 10T, which is popular in dimensional stone quarrying, produces less soot but is slightly less fl exible than the PVC-coated F-Cord 10.

Detonating cord is also used in open-cut mining and other detonation work to ensure the continuation of the detonation. In this case it must be ensured that the detonating cord in question is suitable for the intended use.

STORAGE AND WEATHER-RESISTANCE

The water-resistance of the F-Cord 10 is good and its storage durability is excellent, if the product is stored dry with a storage temperature of between -25 °C and +45 °C. The recommended usage temperature is between -30 °C and +60 °C. The product can be used within 24 months from the manufacturing date marked on the packaging.

SAFETY OF HANDLING

Detonating cord does not react to electrical hazards, e.g. lightning, with the exception of a direct lightning strike.

Skin contact with the explosive contained in the cord must be avoided.

Use of product: The detonating cord is cut using a sharp knife on a piece of wood or other non-metal surface. When cutting the cord, any abrasive movement or sparking must be avoided. The ends of the cord must be sealed with tape immediately after cutting to prevent the PETN from sprinkling out and any moisture getting inside the cord. When simultaneously igniting several blastholes using the

detonating cord, it is attached to the bottom most cartridge of each hole using e.g insulating tape. The detonating cords coming up from the boreholes are connected to each other with a so-called trunk line that is also a detonating cord.

Branching: The cords going in to the borehole are connected to the trunk line either using connectors specifi cally meant for connecting detonating cords or knots or tape. The distance between the branches must be at least 20 cm.The trunk line must not be pulled too tense because the pull caused by the explosion may disconnect the connection. When making tape connections, make sure that all joints are done in the direction of propagation of the detonation and that the joints are at least 10 cm long. When unwinding the cord from the reel, it must be ensured that no knots, loops, twists or kinks are left in the cord.

Extending: The cord can be extended by using e.g. knots or tape, in which case the joint must be at least 10 cm long.

Use in wet conditions: In wet conditions, it must be ensured that the open ends of the detonating cord do not come in to contact with water. If the end of the cord has gotten wet, the charger must cut off the wet part of the cord. If the cord is used underwater, its end must be sealed as well as possible.

Use in cold conditions: In extremely cold conditions it must be ensured that any knots made are tight enough and that the knots stay tight.

Igniting: The detonating cord is ignited using a blasting cap (EN class 3/#8), which is taped to the cord so that the blasting cap’s bottom is in the direction of propagation of the detonation and so that the blasting cap is between 20 and 30 cm from the end of the cord.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND USE

K pipecharges are specially designed for dimensional stone blasting in quarries and other applications that need reduced and controlled charges in drill holes.

For F pipecharges, the primary application is smooth blasting and pre-splitting in surface and underground operations, however they can also be used in other kinds of blasting where a precise amount of explosives is required. When contour lines are blasted using F pipecharges, the damage of remaining rock is minimized, producing high quality, long lasting walls. In addition, the remaining walls will achieve the designed contour lines.

The pipes can be equipped with locking sleeves that center the pipes within the borehole and prevent them from being thrown out of the hole. When the pipe is centered, an air cushion is formed between the pipe and the wall of the hole, which minimizes unnecessary fracturing of the rock.

ADVANTAGES OF USING F AND K PIPECHARGES:

• Charging is light and remains constant

• The locking sleeve centers the pipecharges in the borehole

• Neat and accurate blasting results

• Reduced concrete consumption when casting directly onto the rock

• Reduced danger of falling rocks in sections and tunnels

• Reduced need to strengthen and clean ceilings and walls

• Less fl ow resistance for water in drains and water tunnels

• Longer safe lifecycle of the rock structure

STORAGE LIFE AND WEATHER RESISTANCE

The optimal storage temperature for F and K pipecharges is between -25°C and + 30°C. The storage life of the product is 24 months from the manufacturing date, if the product has been stored in a suitable storage temperature in a dry location. Large variations in temperature should be avoided during storage. Long-term storage in a temperature colder

or warmer than the suitable storage temperature will have a negative eff ect on the characteristics of the product and will shorten its storage life.

PRODUCT USE AND HANDLING SAFETY

K pipecharges require the use of detonating cord (10 g PETN/m) in order to transmit the

detonation with absolute certainty. The detonating cord is wrapped around the series of pipecharges; the user needs to tie a clove hitch around each pipe and tape the ends to the fi rst and last pipe. K pipecharges are usually detonated by means of a detonating cord in a way that causes several adjacent holes to detonate simultaneously.

To ensure a safe and reliable initiation when using F pipecharges, a detonating cord (≥ 5 g PETN/m) can be used. In that case, the user needs to attach the detonating cord to the pipecharge in the same way as described above for the K pipecharge.

The F and K pipecharges are not fully water-resistant, so they are not recommended for extremely wetdrill holes.

The F and K pipecharges contain nitroglycol which might cause headache and reduced blood pressure upon skin contact or respiration. Wear protective gloves to avoid skin contact.

Whenever handling the product, it is important to bear in mind that it is an explosive that can detonate when misused, resulting in severe consequences. All regulations pertaining to the handling and use of explosives must be complied with. Disposal of the product must be performed in accordance with the local regulations.
