T he required scheduled m aintenance services listed i n this guide areconsidered essential to the proper operati on, safety and performance ofyour F ord M otor C ompany vehicle. We recommend that you also performthe O wner M aintenance C heck s listed. T hese services are matters ofday-to-day care that are also important to the proper operation of your

vehicle. T he recommended lubricants, fluids and service partsconforming to Ford Specifi cations are available from your Ford orL incoln-M ercury dealer.

T his guide gives you a place to record the services that are performed onyour vehicle so t hat you can k eep a r ecord of when parts should becheck ed or replaced. G ive your Service G uide to your Ford orL incoln-M ercury service manager.

M aintenance is an investment that will pay dividends in the form ofim proved reliabili ty, durabili ty and r esale value.

T o assure the durabili ty of your vehicle and it s emission control systems,it is necessary that scheduled mai ntenance be performed at thedesignated intervals.

Ford strongly recommends the use of genuine F ord r eplacement parts. I fother than Ford or M otorcraft parts or F ord authorized remanufacturedparts are used for maintenance replacements or for t he service ofcomponents affecti ng emission control, the non-Ford parts should beequivalent to genuine F ord M otor C ompany parts in performance anddurabili ty. I t i s the owners responsibi lit y to determi ne the equivalency ofsuch parts. P lease consult your Warranty I nformation Book let forcomplete warranty information.

NO COST PCV VALVE REPLACEMENT

T he P C V valve is a criti cal emission component. Your dealer will replacethe valve at no cost at 96,000 k ilometers ( 60,000 mi les) , except inCanada and California.

Wheel lug nuts

Wheel lug nuts must be retightened to proper torque specifications at800 k m ( 500 mi les) of new vehicle operation. P roper torquespecifi cations are provided in your O wners G uide. A lso retighten t oproper torque specifi cations at 800 k m ( 500 miles) after:

1. any wheel change, or

2. any other time the wheel lug nuts have been loosened.

WHAT MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE SHOULD YOU FOLLOW?

Normal schedule

Follow the N o rma l sch ed u l e for most everyday driving conditions.

Severe duty schedule

Follow the Severe Duty Schedule if your driving habits frequentlyinclude one or more of the following conditions:

uT owing a trailer or carrying a heavy load.

u O perati ng i n severe dust conditi ons.

u E xt ensive idli ng, such as police, taxi or door-to-door delivery service.

u O ff-road operation.

u Short tri ps of less than 16 k m ( 10 miles) when outside temperaturesremain below 18C ( 0F) .

I dling the engine for extended periods will accumulate more hours of useon your vehicle than is actually indicated by the odometer. C onsequently,the odometer reading can often be misleading when determining theright time to change you engine oil and filter.

I f you are using your F ord vehicle in a manner which allows it to remainstationary while the engine i s running for long periods ( door-to-doordelivery, taxi, police, power/utili ty company truck s or simi lar duty) , then

Ford recommends you i ncrease the frequency of oil and fi lter changes toan interval equivalent to 200 engine hours of use. Si nce most vehicles arenot equipped wit h hourmeters, it may be necessary for you toapproxi mate your idle ti me and plan oil/fi lter changes accordingly.

Li ght duty truck s equipped wi th Ford design front axles are lubricatedfor li fe. A t 60,000 miles ( 96,000 km ) your dealer wi ll replace the PC V valve at nocost except on Canadian and California vehicles.

E xtremely dusty conditi ons will requir e more frequent replacement ofyour air fi lter. C heck your air fi lter at 5,000 km ( 3,000 miles) . I f it isdirty, replace i t and then k eep replacing i t at t he same interval ( every5,000 km [3,000 miles]) . I f i t is not dirty, check it again at 10,000 km( 6,000 miles) and again at 15,000 k m ( 9,000 mi les) until you determineyour uni que maintenance i nterval. D o not go beyond 50,000 km ( 30,000

N on-synthetic rear axle lubricants should be replaced every 5,000 k m( 3,000 miles) or 3 months, whichever occurs first, during extendedtrailer tow operation above 21C ( 70F) ambient and wi de open throttlefor extended periods above 72 km/h ( 45 mph) . T he 5,000 k m ( 3,000miles) lube change i nterval may be waived i f the axle was filled with75W140 synthetic gear lubricant meeting Ford specificationWSL -M 2C192-A , part number F1T Z-19580-B or equivalent. A dd fourounces of additi ve friction modifi er C8A Z-19B456-A ( E ST -M 2C 118-A ) orequivalent for complete refill of T raction-Lok rear axles. T he axlelubricant should be changed anytime the axle has been submerged i nwater.
