Forest of DeanNestling in the beautiful Forest of Dean, the crematorium offers a unique setting for a funeral. Making it feel a place of peace and seclusion, which is so important for a funeral.

The building has been especially designed to blend into its environment. Built with local timber and stone it has a natural elegance, in keeping with the surrounding scenery. The chapel is spacious and fitted with an excellent music system.

The chapel has a large bay windows allowing wide views of the forest landscape beyond. We feel privileged to be able to provide this service in such a special, natural place. An organ is available to play more traditional pieces and families have the choice to create their own individual funeral. PA and loop systems have also been fitted for the convenience of mourners.

The most advanced technology has been used throughout our service, ensuring that Forest Of Dean crematorium is one of the most environmentally friendly in the world.

Probably the most picturesque chapel owned by Westerleigh, we are able to seat 70 people with standing space for a further 50. Speakers are also located outside of the chapel allowing larger parties to be catered for. We allow 60-minutes between each service including half an hour within the chapel with time either side for people to get settled and to leave unhurried. This ensures that every family has enough time to hold a personal and dignified service.

We feel that it is essential that you are able to hold the funeral of your choice and our chapel can be altered, with prior arrangement, to create a suitable environment for a service of any religion or belief.

The floral tribute area is set to the side of the chapel, offering a quiet spot to gather with friends and family after the service. Floral tributes will remain on display outside for a minimum of three nights, unless otherwise instructed.

Living Memorials

TreesA variety of trees have been planted in our gardens to provide natural, living memorials, each surrounded by granite setts and can be marked with a dedication plaque.

Communal Shrub BedsShrubs and bushes provide a traditional form of remembrance. They have been arranged in communal beds into which dedication plaques may be placed.

Standard RosesOur rose trees provide a beautiful and traditional form of remembrance. They are arranged in individual beds surrounded by granite setts and can be marked with a dedication plaque.

Family GardensFamily gardens are dedicated to individual families and are planted separately. Each garden is surrounded by granite setts and can be marked with a dedication plaque, providing a distinct, private area for you to visit and tend.

Contemporary Memorials

Wooden BenchesWooden memorial benches are located within the Gardens of Remembrance, in areas of peace and tranquillity and can be dedicated with an inscribed bronze plaque.

Granite BenchesGranite benches provide a long lasting, maintenance free alternative to the traditional wooden bench. They are available in a range of colours and can be engraved with a dedication or emblem and even enhanced with a photo plaque.

Bird Baths and SundialsGranite, black marble and sandstone have been used to create a varied and interesting range of contemporary bird baths and sundials. Ashes may be buried or scattered beneath and some can accommodate up to two sets of ashes within the pedestal. Special positions can be found in the garden for these individual memorials.

Reflection StoneThe reflection stone is a unique cremation memorial, hewn from basalt with a beautiful natural appearance. Each stone can be dedicated to the memory of a loved one and ashes may be scattered or buried close by. The inscription is engraved on a tempered glass panel on the top sloping face of the stone.

Leaf VaultA unique above ground ashes vault created in Rainbow Sandstone or Granite. The memorial securely holds either one or two sets of ashes and is finished with a granite ‘Leaf’ design for the inscription, offering an original, fitting and dignified resting place. The inset Vase can be used with any of the vaults shown.

PlaquesNatural and long lasting granite plaques are engraved with your personal dedication. The plaque is placed on a communal memorial set within the Gardens of Remembrance. For full details on our available memorials please contact the crematorium office.

Mini Graves - Available in a full range of colours. A small upright headstone and kerb set provides a distinctive memorial to mark the burial plot of your loved one’s ashes. Each measures approximately 2ft (60cm), is available in a range of granites and can be made to accommodate one or two vases for displaying cut flowers. The area in front of the headstone can be filled with coloured chippings or with soil for planting. Alternatively, a co-ordinating granite slab can be provided.

Garden MemorialsA range of hand-carved memorials are available, which are ideally placed within communal gardens. They are also often used to mark the ashes burial plot within a private space. Available in all granite colours, they can also be made of Italian white marble but it is important to note that marble will weather naturally over time.

Above Ground Vaults Unlike other traditional memorials, these secure granite vaults hold the ashes urn above ground, making them particularly suitable for shorter term leases. They consist of a granite sanctum and an above ground mini grave that can each hold up to four sets of ashes. The vaults are available in the full range of granites, unless otherwise stated.

Granite cremation tablets are simple, elegantly designed and low maintenance memorials, designed to mark the burial of ashes within a garden of remembrance. They are designed to fit a standard 2ft (60cm) x 2ft (60cm) concrete foundation and can be made to hold one or two integral vases, if required.

Vases & Kerbs - Available in a full range of colours.

Vases are a classic, maintenance free, granite memorial for displaying cut flowers, ideal for placing within communal gardens. They can also be used to mark the ashes burial plot within a private space. They are available in all of the granite colours and some are also available in marble. The kerb usually lines a path, inscribed with a dedication to your loved one. It is important to note that marble will weather naturally over time.

Classic Garden Range - Available in a full range of colours.

These small memorials are designed in the style of classic and contemporary headstones and are ideally suited for the dedication of a loved one’s ashes alongside a tree, rose or in a communal or family garden.

Natural Stones - Available in a full range of colours, except NS08.

A range of smaller granite memorials is available, including vases for displaying cut flowers. They are suitable for placing alongside a tree, rose or in a family garden or as an alternative to the traditional plaque. They may also be used to mark the ashes burial plot within a private space.

Miniature Books & CardsThe Miniature Book of Remembrance and Memorial Cards are intended as personal keep-sakes or for sending to friends and relatives, who cannot easily visit the Chapel of Remembrance. Both the books and cards bear a copy of the inscription in the main book.

Should you wish to create a family record, the Miniature Book contains extra pages for future entries.

The 5 Line PackThis includes a five line entry in the Book of Remembrance, 1 x Miniature Book of Remembrance, 3 x Folded Remembrance Cards

The 8 Line PackThis includes an eight line entry in the Book of Remembrance, 1 x Miniature Book of Remembrance, 3 x Folded Remembrance Cards

The Book of Remembrance is on display 365 days of the year in a cabinet in our waiting room. It provides an inexpensive yet permanent and dignified memorial with entries recorded by hand. Entries can also be made for loved ones whose funeral took place elsewhere, providing a place of remembrance for families who have become separated or moved apart.

The book consists of a number of hand-made, richly-bound volumes and the pages are turned daily. Usually, the entry is placed on the date of death but other anniversaries or dates of importance may be chosen. Two, five or eight lines may be chosen and a floral motif or suitable badge can form part of a five or eight line entry. Miniature Books and Cards also available.
