HiSTORy OF THE FORMASTER

Normac is a leading manufacturer of grinding equipment forthe cutting tool industry. We have 40 years of world-wideexperience in providing cutting-edge technology for difficult manufacturing tasks along with close, personal attention toour customers’ needs.

In 1982, Normac began to manufacture the Formaster, a CNC grinding wheel profiling attachment, to satisfy two requirements; sophisticated wheel dressing for our own machines and that of the grinding industry at large.

Over 300 units in operation worldwide provide customers avery accurate method of dressing complex grinding wheelprofiles quickly and easily.

The Formaster was designed to be small and compact providing easy installation on nearly any grinding machine, and alsostrong and rigid to assure the greatest possible accuracy. The Formaster breathes new life into old, outdated equipment.

The Formaster is acknowledged as a successful OEMcomponent for gear, broach, hob, bearing and thread grinding machines. It is the profiler of choice for leading manufacturers where accuracy of the grinding wheel profile is critical.

The Formaster is a main component of the CBN seriesGrinding Wheel Profiling Centers. These machines are one of the best kept secrets in the industry, due to their astounding capabilities and high rate return on investment. Profiling Centers are used for pre-forming grinding wheels away from their target grinding machine, truing and conditioning wheels of various bonds and abrasive grain types.

Leading world-wide manufacturers of super abrasive(CBN and Diamond) grinding wheels report great success; improvements in both productivity and quality of the product.CBN series Profiling Centers are also a main componentin manufacturing HSS and carbide hobs in the USA,Europe and the Far East.

With every Formaster, Normac provides free lifetime support in programming, grinding wheel dressing techniques and selection of best dressing tools.

NEw FORMASTER Tk SERiES

A new generation of Formaster profilers, employing the verylatest in new technologies, to manage the most demanding dressing requirements.

TK series units employed two main components: latestdevelopments in technology and Normac’s 25 years ofexperience to design and build best profilers in the world.

Normac’s TK series profilers features: the latest Heidenhain LS483 absolute EnDat-2 linear encoders, needle bearing cages which cover the full length of the internal guide-way members over their full travel, enlarged cross section of the slide system and INA support lead-screw bearings.

The Transroll lead-screw, employs an outboard INA support bearing system, which defines a pre-stress to the lead-screw providing maximum torsional rigidity.

NEw FORMASTER FM2

A new generation Formaster profiler, designed specifically for af-fordability and ease of installation. It is available in one size, with a travel of 60 mm in both X and Y axes. So easy to install and operate, in most cases assistance from Normac isn’t required.

This profiler features: SINUMERIK 802D control, an operator friendly machine interface, servo-motors with absolute encoders, SKF linear bearings and super precision lead screws.

FORMASTER ExCLuSivE FEATuRES

Accuracy Superior design and construction enables the Formaster to maintain tolerances unparalleled by competitive units. Anti-friction needle bearing ways are precisely fitted and preloaded during assembly to provide less than 0.002mmpositioning error throughout the entire slide travel. The result isa mechanical system capable of inspection gauge accuracy, handling the most critical grinding wheel dressing requirements.

Ease of Programming The Formaster two axis design simpli-fies programming. The CNC is supplied with a graphical user interface for program verification and is expandable to four axis of control. Application software and custom displays removethe burden of complex math calculations and typical NC programming. This system enables you to grind whatever you design. Stand-alone special software to convert DXF formatfiles to Formaster CNC programs is available.

CNC Operator Displays Formaster’s cycles and screensare created to provide a user friendly environment for theoperator. HMI CAD-Reader makes conversion from DXF CADfile to G-code part program simple and easy.

versatility The Formaster is both compact and light-weight. Adapting it to virtually any grinding machine is quick and easy. Successful installations have been made on surface grinders, OD external grinders, centerless grinders, broach and gear grinding machines and many others.

Durability Low maintenance, long life and trouble-freeoperation are hallmarks of all Normac products. The Formaster is a positively mechanically sealed system, and is air purgedand automatically lubricated to assure dependable operation and eliminate costly down time.
