1.2 SUBMITTALS
A. PRODUCT DATA: FOR THE FOLLOWING:
1. DIELECTRIC FITTINGS.
2. IN ADDITION TO ALL SUBMITTALS IDENTIFIED IN THE SPECIFICATION SECTIONS, SUBMITTALS SHALL BE PROVIDED UNDER THIS SECTION (220500) FOR ALL
PLUMBING FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT SCHEDULED ON THE DRAWINGS OR IDENTIFIED IN KEYED NOTES.
1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS FOR PLUMBING EQUIPMENT: EQUIPMENT OF HIGHER ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS THAN BASIS OF DESIGN MAY BE
FURNISHED PROVIDED SUCH PROPOSED EQUIPMENT IS APPROVED IN WRITING AND CONNECTING ELECTRICAL SERVICES, CIRCUIT BREAKERS, AND CONDUIT
SIZES ARE APPROPRIATELY MODIFIED AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. IF MINIMUM ENERGY RATINGS OR EFFICIENCIES ARE SPECIFIED, EQUIPMENT SHALL
COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS.
B. WHEN THE DRAWINGS AND/OR SPECIFICATIONS REFER TO ANY ITEM, ARTICLE, MATERIAL, METHOD, FABRICATION, ASSEMBLY OR CONSTRUCTION BY MEANS OF
ONE OR MORE MANUFACTURER'S TRADE NAME, CATALOG REFERENCE OR SIMILAR MEANS OF IDENTIFICATION OF MANUFACTURER, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
FURNISH ONE OF THE MAKES SO IDENTIFIED WITHOUT SUBSTITUTION UNLESS OTHER MAKE OR MAKES HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY ADDENDUM TO THE
CONTRACT DOCUMENTS PRIOR TO THE RECEIPT OF BIDS. REQUESTS FOR THE APPROVAL OF ITEMS OF EQUAL QUALITY ARE REQUESTED TO BE MADE IN
WRITING TO THE ARCHITECT FIFTEEN (15) DAYS PRIOR TO THE DATE OF THE RECEIPT OF BIDS SO THAT A LIST OF ACCEPTABLE EQUAL QUALITY ITEMS CAN BE
MADE KNOWN TO ALL BIDDERS BY AN ADDENDUM. IF SUBSTITUTION FOR NAMED ITEMS, ARTICLES, MATERIALS, METHODS, FABRICATIONS, ASSEMBLY OR
CONSTRUCTION ARE APPROVED, THE CONTRACTOR ASSUMES ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR COORDINATION AND PERFORMING THE RELATED CHANGES IN THE
WORK NECESSITATED BY SUCH SUBSTITUTIONS AND SHALL INCLUDE IN THE BID ALL COSTS INVOLVED THEREIN.
C. THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL CHANGES OF ANY TYPE DUE TO SUBSTITUTIONS FOR MATERIALS SPECIFIED SHALL BE BORNE BY THE CONTRACTOR AT NO EXTRA
COST TO THE OWNER.
D. UNSOLICITED AND VOLUNTARY DEDUCTS, ON THE PART OF THE CONTRACTOR FOR SUBSTITUTING UNAPPROVED EQUIPMENT, SHALL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR
THE PURPOSE OF AWARDING THE CONTRACT.
E. THE ARCHITECT SHALL BE THE SOLE AND FINAL JUDGE AS TO THE SUITABILITY OF ITEMS SUBSTITUTED FOR THOSE SPECIFIED.
F. WHEN THE DRAWINGS SCHEDULE A MANUFACTURER AS THE BASIS OF DESIGN, THE CONTRACTOR ASSUMES ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR COORDINATION AND
PERFORMING THE RELATED CHANGES IN THE WORK NECESSITATED BY UTILIZING ANOTHER MANUFACTURER LISTED AS ACCEPTABLE IN THE SPECIFICATIONS.
THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL ASSOCIATED CHANGES OF ANY TYPE SHALL BE BORNE BY THE CONTRACTOR AT NO EXTRA COST TO THE OWNER.
G. DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS SHALL BE TAKEN TOGETHER. PROVIDE WORK SPECIFIED AND NOT INDICATED, OR WORK INDICATED AND NOT SPECIFIED AS
THOUGH MENTIONED IN BOTH.
H. IN CASE OF DISCREPANCY BETWEEN DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS, OR WITHIN EITHER DOCUMENT, THE GREATER QUANTITY OF WORK AND / OR BETTER
QUALITY SHALL BE USED FOR ESTIMATING AND THE MATTER BROUGHT TO THE ARCHITECT'S ATTENTION FOR A WRITTEN DECISION.
1.4 COORDINATION
A. COORDINATION PROCESS BETWEEN TRADES:
1. KEEP INFORMED ABOUT THE WORK OF ALL OTHER TRADES ENGAGED IN THE PROJECT AND EXECUTE THE WORK IN SUCH A MANNER AS NOT TO DELAY OR
INTERFERE WITH THE PROGRESS OF OTHER CONTRACTORS. THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL SCHEDULE THE WORK SO THAT NO OTHER CONTRACTOR IS
DELAYED IN THE EXECUTION OF THE WORK. COMPLETE COOPERATION OF ALL TRADES IS EXPECTED. EMPLOY A COMPETENT FOREMAN ON JOB
THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROJECT TO ENSURE THAT COORDINATION IS MAINTAINED.
2. SCHEDULE AND COORDINATE THE WORK OF THIS DIVISION WITH THE SCHEDULE OF THE CONTRACTOR TO PROGRESS THE WORK EXPEDITIOUSLY, AND TO
AVOID UNNECESSARY DELAYS.
3. EXAMINE FULLY THE DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR OTHER CONTRACTORS FOR OTHER TRADES, AND COORDINATE THE INSTALLATION OF THIS WORK
WITH THE WORK OF THE OTHER CONTRACTORS. CONSULT AND COOPERATE WITH OTHER CONTRACTORS FOR DETERMINING SPACE REQUIREMENTS AND
FOR DETERMINING THAT ADEQUATE CLEARANCE IS ALLOWED WITH RESPECT TO THE EQUIPMENT, OTHER EQUIPMENT, AND THE BUILDING. THE OWNER'S
REPRESENTATIVE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DETERMINE SPACE PRIORITY IN THE EVENT OF INTERFERENCE BETWEEN PIPING, CONDUIT, DUCTS, AND
EQUIPMENT OF THE VARIOUS CONTRACTORS.
4. CONFLICTS BETWEEN THE DRAWINGS AND THE SPECIFICATION SHALL BE CALLED TO THE ATTENTION OF THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE AND ARCHITECT.
IF CLARIFICATION IS NOT ASKED FOR PRIOR TO THE TAKING OF BIDS, IT WILL BE ASSUMED THAT NONE IS REQUIRED AND THAT THE CONTRACTOR IS IN
AGREEMENT WITH THE DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS AS ISSUED. IF CLARIFICATION IS REQUIRED AFTER THE CONTRACT IS AWARDED, SUCH
CLARIFICATION WILL BE MADE BY THE ARCHITECT AND THEIR DECISION WILL BE FINAL.
5. COORDINATE THE INSTALLATION OF ALL SYSTEM COMPONENTS WITH ALL OTHER TRADES, INCLUDING STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS AND ELECTRICAL
TRADES. ALLOCATE SPACE IN THE DIFFERENT AREAS TO ALLOW FOR THE INSTALLATION OF DUCTWORK, PIPING, SPRINKLERS, WASTE AND VENTS, AND
MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT ABOVE CEILINGS AND IN EQUIPMENT SPACES. RECOMMEND REROUTING, RESIZING OR RELOCATION OF MECHANICAL
COMPONENTS, IF NECESSARY, SO ALL TRADES CAN INSTALL THEIR SYSTEMS IN THE SPACE ALLOTTED. ANY PROPOSED CHANGES FROM THE SYSTEMS
LAYOUT, ON THE DRAWINGS, SHALL BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DESIGN CRITERIA SPECIFIED IN THE APPLICABLE CODES AND SHALL BE SUBJECT
TO THE REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE ARCHITECT.
6. THE FOLLOWING LIST, IN DESCENDING ORDER, IS THE PRECEDENCE ASSIGNED THE WORK ITEMS FOR SPACE PRIORITY. RECESSED LIGHT FIXTURES AND
SPACE FOR THEIR INSTALLATION HAS FIRST PRIORITY, FUTURE UTILITY SPACE HAS SECOND PRIORITY, ETC.
a. RECESSED LIGHT FIXTURES AND ACCESS ABOVE LIGHT FIXTURES REQUIRED FOR MAINTENANCE.
b. SPACE DESIGN FOR FUTURE UTILITY PLACEMENT.
c. GRAVITY FLOW PLUMBING WASTE AND ROOF DRAINAGE, AND ANY OTHER SYSTEM THAT RELIES ON GRAVITY FOR FLOW.
d. DUCTWORK AND APPURTENANCES.
e. CABLE TRAY.
f. ELECTRICAL CONDUIT OVER TWO INCHES IN DIAMETER.
g. PRESSURIZED DOMESTIC WATER PIPING AND HVAC PIPING.
h. PLUMBING VENTS.
7. AFTER AWARD OF THE CONTRACT, AND PRIOR TO START OF CONSTRUCTION, THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR SHALL SCHEDULE A MEETING WITH THE
CONTRACTOR AND ALL SUBCONTRACTORS RESPONSIBLE OF THE WORK ITEMS LISTED ABOVE. THE PURPOSE OF THE MEETING IS TO INTRODUCE THE
COORDINATION PROGRAM AND TO DETERMINE ITS IMPLEMENTATION IN RELATION TO THE PROGRESS SCHEDULE.
8. ALL CONTRACTORS AND SUBCONTRACTORS SHALL PARTICIPATE IN THE COORDINATION PROCESS. PARTICIPATION IS MANDATORY. IF A CONTRACTOR OR
SUBCONTRACTOR FAILS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COORDINATION PROCESS, THE OWNER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
a. STOP ANY AND ALL CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS PAYMENTS FOR ANY WORK PERFORMED BY THE CONTRACTOR. SUCH PAYMENTS WILL BE REINSTATED
ONLY AFTER THE CONTRACTOR OR SUBCONTRACTOR RESUMES PARTICIPATION IN THE COORDINATION PROCESS.
b. RELOCATE AND RESIZE CONTRACTOR'S WORK COMPONENTS AS NECESSARY TO ENSURE ALL COMPONENTS WILL BE INSTALLED AS INTENDED. IN THE
EVENT THE CONTRACTOR DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE COORDINATION PROCESS, THEY WILL NOT BE ENTITLED TO ANY CONTRACT COST INCREASES OR
TIME EXTENSIONS DUE TO OWNER INITIATED CHANGES IN THE WORK.
c. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ALSO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY UNNECESSARY REWORK BY OTHER TRADE CONTRACTORS THAT IS ATTRIBUTABLE TO
THE FAILURE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COORDINATION PROCESS.
d. THE CONTRACT DRAWINGS ARE SCHEMATIC IN NATURE AND DO NOT SHOW EVERY FITTING AND APPURTENANCE FOR EACH UTILITY BECAUSE OF THE
SCALE OF THE DRAWINGS. EACH CONTRACTOR IS EXPECTED TO HAVE INCLUDED IN THE BID SUFFICIENT FITTINGS, MATERIAL, AND LABOR TO ALLOW
FOR ADJUSTMENTS IN ROUTING OF UTILITIES MADE NECESSARY BY THE COORDINATION PROCESS. THE CONTRACTOR WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ANY

1. Floor or Wall Assembly - Min 4-1/2 in. (114 mm) thick reinforced lightweight or normal weight (100-150 pcf or 1600-2400 kg/m3) concrete. Wall may also be constructed of any UL
Classified Concrete Blocks*. Diam of opening to be 4 in. (102 mm).

2. Steel Sleeve - (Optional) - Nom 4 in. (102 mm) diam Schedule 10 to Schedule 40 steel pipe or rigid steel conduit cast or grouted into concrete floor or wall flush with floor or wall
surfaces.
3. Firestop Device* - One firestop device module centered within the opening. The firestop device module consists of a 3 by 3 by 10-1/2 in. (76 by 76 by 267 mm) long galv steel tube
with an intumescent material lining. Firestop device module to be installed in accordance with the accompanying installation instructions. The space between the firestop device
module and the periphery of the opening shall be min 0 in. ( 0 mm, point contact) to max 1/2 in. (13 mm). Firestop device module secured in place by means of steel restraint plates
sized to accommodate the firestop device module. Steel restraint plates each provided with a closed cell silicone gasket and sized to lap approx 1/2 in. (13 mm) on floor or wall
surfaces. Steel restraint plate installed on both sides of floor or wall and secured to firestop device module with steel set screws. The firestop device module is to be installed with its
ends projecting an equal distance beyond each surface of the floor or wall assembly. As an option, firestop device may be cast or grouted into wall assembly. When device is cast or
grouted in place, the steel restraint plates are optional.

length to facilitate installation in thicker floors or walls. Each module consists of a 3 by 3 by 6 in. (76 by 76 by 152 mm) long galv steel tube with an intumescent material lining.
Extension module to be installed in accordance with the accompanying installation instructions. When module is used, firestop device (Item 3) and extension module(s) secured in
place by means of steel plates installed with gasketing material supplied with product. Steel plates installed on both sides of floor or wall and secured to each device or extension
module(s) by means of steel set screws provided with plates. Firestop device and extension module(s) assembly to be installed with ends projecting an equal distance beyond each
surface of the floor or wall assembly.

4. Fill, Void or Cavity Material* - Sealant or Putty - Prior to installation of steel restraint plates, min 1 in. (25 mm) thickness of sealant or putty installed in annular space flush with top
surface of floor or both surfaces of wall.

5. Cables - Within the loading area for each firestop device module, the cables may represent a 0 to 100 percent visual fill. Cable fill to be distributed at a uniform height across the
width of the firestop device module. Cables to be rigidly supported on both sides of the floor or wall assembly. Any combination of the following types of cables may be used:
A. Max 400 pair No. 24 AWG (or smaller) copper conductor telecommunication cable with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) jacketing and insulation.
B. Max 350 kcmil single copper conductor power cable with XLPE jacket and insulation
C. Max 7/C No. 12 AWG copper conductor control cable with PVC or XLPE jacket and insulation.
D. Max 3/C No. 10 AWG metal clad or armored cable with steel or aluminum jacket.
E. Max 3/C No. 8 AWG NM cable (Romex) with PVC insulation and jacket.
F. Max 4 pair No. 22 AWG (or smaller) copper conductor data cable with PVC or plenum rated jacketing and insulation.
G. Max RG/U coaxial cable with fluorinated ethylene insulation and jacketing.
H. Optical fiber cable with PVC or polyethylene (PE) jacket and insulation and having a max diam of 5/8 in. (16 mm).
I. Optical Fiber Raceway+ - Max 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) diam (or smaller) optical fiber raceway ("innerduct") formed of either PVC or polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with optical fiber
cable fill. Raceways installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70).
When Item 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D or 5E is used, the F Rating is 2 hr and the T Rating is 3/4 hr. When max 200 pair No. 24 AWG telecommunication cable is used or when Item
5F, 5G, 5H or 5I is used, the F Rating is 4 hr and the T Rating is 1 hr.
The L Rating for each empty firestop device module is less than 1 cfm at ambient and at 400F. When Item 5A is used, the L Rating for each firestop device module with
100 percent visual fill is 4 cfm at ambient and 3 cfm at 400F. When Item 5F is used, the L Rating for each firestop device module with 100 percent visual fill is 1.3 cfm at
ambient and less than 1 cfm at 400F.When Item 5G or 5H is used, the L Rating for each firestop device module with 100 percent visual fill is 7 cfm at ambient and 2 cfm
at 400F.
