FOUNDATIONS IN CHILDREN’S NURSINGMODULE 92524Introducing the module
Jeremy
Overall principles• Module not designed to be ‘difficult’, it is an introduction;• However, it has a lot of breadth;• Be sure to look at the past exam papers;• Do more than turn up for the sessions, prepare for the
sessions and contribute to them;
Teaching principles• You are expected to be adult learners• The keynote lectures are designed to guide your study –
not to tell you everything you need to know• Designed to stimulate learning• NOT designed to help you pass the exam• You should study in the library – if you haven’t tried this
yet, consider doing so.
We like you to be:• Eager to learn• Motivated to study as well as to practice• Enthusiastic, vigorous and motivated• Eager to address your learning deficits
It’s here!

Assessment• Examination – prepare by doing mock exam on
website;• Details in module guide;• Ensure learning in drug calculations, child
development, history and …;• Ensure you know about what children’s nursing is,
where it has been and where it is going, get a general ‘hold’ on current issues in children’s nursing;
• Exam details (time of exam etc.) are published on the Portal, ask Exam office for clarification.
Your practice• Be energetic, enthusiastic, motivated to learn• Don’t hide from new opportunities• Do embrace your fears• Be clear about what it is you want to achieve on your
placement• Be prepared to be emotionally challenged• If you need help – tell someone.
I don’t like it!
• You should enjoy this module, you should have fun doing it, if you don’t enjoy it – tell me.
