The Four Cultures Quartet was founded in Lodz, a city of multicultural traditions, built in the nineteenth century by Poles, Germans, Jews and Russians. Eminent twentieth-
century artists hailing from Łódź include: Arthur Rubinstein, Alexander Tansman, Grażyna Bacewicz, Paweł Klecki. After many years, Łódź returns to its past, remembering the contribution that people from different cultures, languages, religions brought into the development of the
city. In 2012, when we organized the Łódź of Four Cultures - Generations festival , we referred to this tradition. We are offering a unique concert and music performed by young artists representing the four cultures.
FOUR CULTURES QUARTET
The Four Cultures Quartet is an introduction to a project planned for
2013 and 2014. The premise of the project is the establishment of The
Four Cultures Orchestra, consisting of professional musicians
(students of different European music academies) representing the
four cultures which together created the city of Lodz.
The premiere performance of the Four Cultures Quartet was held at
the Łódź of Four Cultures festival 2012 – GENERATIONS.
The Four Cultures Quartet performed during the Łódź of Four
Cultures festival 2012 – GENERATIONS twice. The second
performance was held in a unique space – in the underground
potable water cisterns.
Both concerts have been recorded in their entirety.

FOUR CULTURES QUARTET
The proposed set of
compositions represents four very interesting twentieth century composers associated with each of the four cultures. Their biografies complement one another
and highlight the dangers of the past century (such as Nazism or communism) against the backdrop of Jewish issues. Tansman's family came to Lodz from
Russia (where the future composer was born). Weinberg spent all his adult life in Moscow but he considered himself a Pole. Schulhoff was a Jew of
German origin but he was born in Prague. Bacewicz was a Pole born in the multicultural Lodz.

Polish, Israeli, German and Russians musicians performed in the underground water supply cistern in Stoki. The "Underground cathedral" is one of the most beautiful places in Łódź. An exclusive version of the concert is scheduled in the underground
cathedral in Stoki. The event has been organized with the A. Rubinstein Łódź Philharmonic and the ZWiK management. Due to the conditions in the cistern, musicians could only perform a fragment of musical pieces presented during the premiere performance.

KWARTET CZTERECH KULTUR
In September 2013 the musicians played as tutors in the Four Cultures Orchestra, organized by the Marek Edelman Dialogue Center.
They came back to Lodz, where they spent one week preparing the youth orchestra, composed of students from Polish, Israeli, German and Russian music schools. The twenty-four-people orchestra was conducted by Daniel Raiskin - the famous conductor, who was born in Saint Petersburg and who now works in Germany and in Poland as a Chef of Lodz Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Four Cultures Orchestra played three concerts:
Łódź September 18 - Muzeum Miasta Łodzi - Pałac Poznańskiego
Poznań September 19 - Akademia Muzyczna im. Ignacego Jana Paderewskiego w
Poznaniu
Warszawa September 20 - Studio Koncertowe Polskiego Radia im. Witolda Lutosławskiego
