Civics

The goals of civics education are to create knowledgeable citizens who will participate in politicallife and be committed to the fundamental values and principles of democracy. Instruction provides students with a basic understanding of political philosophy, politics and government, and how democracy is maintained in an increasingly diverse society.

EconomicsThe economics strand helps people evaluate career choices, analyze personal finance decisions,make wise business decisions, and assess public policy issues. Economic education enhances logicalreasoning and analytical skills-skills that are useful in a wide variety of occupational fields, including generalbusiness, government, law, banking, insurance, and real estate. This education will benefit individual students as well as contribute to Nevada’s efforts to diversify its economy.

GEOGRAPHY

The geography strand is the study of people, places, and environments from a spatial perspective. This subject matter includes the physical: human phenomena that make up the world’s environment and places. The world students face in the twenty-first century is more diverse and more crowded and understanding that world requires great education in geography and historical knowledge and historical inquiry contribute to the skills necessary to be informed citizens.
