AVOID FIRE Fire and smoke can cause damage to your business, and can force trains to stop. • Avoid burning rubbish near the railway. Consider alternatives including shredding or compacting. • Be careful where you store flammable materials (especially acetylene) and comply with any fire regulations. PROTECT FENCES Our fences are designed to protect both our businesses from trespass as well as to keep debris and livestock off the tracks, but we can’t always spot problems straight away. • If you see damage to our fences, contact us and we’ll fix it. • If you are considering moving livestock to a field without a stock-proof fence, contact us. REDUCE DEBRIS Plastic and heavier debris can blow onto live overhead lines or the tracks. This is the biggest cause of rail incidents. • Net rubbish skips, secure loose materials and patrol your site regularly. • If you see debris inside the railway boundary, contact us.
