    Friends of Walgrove Members MeetingOctober 1, 2013

    AGENDA

    I. School/Instructional ReportsA. School Administrative Report (Olivia Adams)

    No report from Olivia, just a hello and Coffee with the Principal this Friday,October 4th.

    B. School Site Council (Andrew Lamond and Sarah Reimers)SSC members are Michele Dean, Sarah Reimers, Andrew Lamond and Akua. No

    CST testing this year as we are transitioning to Common Core, however thereneeds to be a measurement of some sort for Lang Arts, Math and SocialEmotional. Meeting on Thursday October 3rd to decide. There will be no API forthe next two years. 5th Grade may have a science test.II. Officer Reports

    A. Co-Presidents (Julie Dair and Brandy Oeser)1. FOW-LAUSD JUA on Kinder Yard

    Kinder yard will be reopened, bathroom isnt necessary and we have five moreyears.

    2. Parent Center Teacher Project Assembly

    No update

    3. Shakespeare Club

    Due to an inability to find anyone to take the 10 month program as it was in thepast, this will not be available for the 2013 2014 school year. The $1000budgeted will be taken out of the budget. If something else is created, it can bevoted on, but its best to plan for next school year. It was decided there shouldbe announcement since many children are familiar with the program and willnotice its absence.

    1. Annual Fund (Leisle Bartley)

    No % yet, but we have 16k in the bank, 1k higher than last year at this time. Morethan Bare Bones campaign is starting this month and we are giving out theWindow Clings to those who have donated.

    2. Ralphs Community Card Program (Brandy Oeser)

    2. Square 1 Art (Lisa Kantor)

    Only one class didnt participate, but everyone else did. Sticker sheets will besent home with all students with a catalog. So instead of an online portal,everyone gets something with their childs art. Unfortunately its unlikely orderswill be delivered prior to Channukah given how early it is.

    4. Walgroovies (Sarah Reimers and Lisa Kantor)

    a. Moms and Muffins $260 dollars, very succesful

    b. Dads and Donuts

    c. Friendraiser

    d. Upcoming Walgroovies: Moms Night In, Bounce and Bake,Halloween Party

    3. Whale-of-a-Sale Yard Sale (Clare Carey and Liberty Conboy)

    Preliminary numbers are 6k and the Venice Youth Build came to help clean outthe remaining items. Many clothes items were sent to Haiti.

    1. Walgrove Weekly e-Newsletter Update

    2. Website Update (Jennifer Roback)

    Working on a site map and clean up. Also registering the domain to direct all

    traffic to the site.

    4. New FOW logo roll-out

    Thanks to Julie Ticknor, we have a new logo. We are also working on a stylesheet so we will have appropriate logos for each situation.

    Proofing, will be distributed October 16th.

    E. Walgrove Grant Task Force (Sarah Reimers and Lisa Tauscher)

    F. Green Team (Clare Carey and Denise Bell)

    Oct 9 event for tree planting, all kids will participate. November 2nd is communityday, Whole Foods Venice will sponsor and provide food for the workday. They arealso sponsoring gardens for Mark Twain and Venice High School. Daniela Rovedais working on the edible garden on Tuesday and Wednesdays.

    IV. New Business

    A. Social Media Manager Position

    One person is interested, this position will coordinate all online activities,

    maintain things like Great Schools.

    B. Recruitment and Retention Task Force Proposal

    October 7th early bird tour, a lot of interest

    C. IKEA Fundraiser Proposal

    We have been selected by Ikea, people can purchase a soft toy for .50 fordonation they can use that donation to support us or another school. Potentialto earn around $1000. November 10 January. Toys are donated to Dept. of

    Family Services.

    D. Valet Drop-Off One-Month Trial Run

    Need three parents each morning to open doors from 7:35-8:05am.

    Misc: Couer dAlane sent information about a fund raiser they are having, we willsend it out and the hopes of reciprocity in the future.
