Met by the forecast sunshine and South Westerly breeze, a fleet of 22 Beneteau’s from 21ft to 48ft lined up for the FYS 16th Annual Beneteau Owners Regatta on the East Coast in aid of the RNLI. Amongst the fleet were several newcomers to the Fox’s Yachts Sales event.

A short start line, (set on time!), between ‘Fox 1’ and the Harwich Town SC buoy, with 12-14 knots of breeze, the competitors were keen to get cracking at 11.00hrs, apart from the usual late arrivals.

A one-sided beat saw the First 31.7 Silver Gull closely chased by the Oceanis 48 Indulgence, power up to Pennyhole with some well sailed smaller boats hanging on to their

coat tails. A long, foul tide, run to Outer Ridge gave those with waterline length a chance to stretch their legs. The smaller boats split off to the finish from Outer Ridge whilst the larger boats went round an extra loop including Pye End and Pennyhole.

At 13.40 the warning signal for the second race sounded with a slightly increased breeze of around 16-18 knots. A competitive start with a short beam reach to Harwich Shelf made for a busy rounding before heading up the Stour. At this point the Thames Barge, Melissa decided to join in the fun. Surrounded by the fleet Melissa was luffed hard up the River Stour, which was not necessarily on their passage plan as they were trying to head up the Orwell!

Once again the smaller boats had a close race all the way back to the Royal Harwich and were led home by Derek and Jill on the First 310, Extra Old. The larger fleet had a longer course up the River Stour and by the time they were on the return trip the sea breeze

had filled in. A fetch up to Shotley Spit in 25+ knots of breeze followed by a bit of a sleighride past Felixstowe and Levington gave all the crews massive grins. Line honours were hard fought and there were 3 boats overlapped at the finish, Shavonne, Silver Gull and Indulgence in that order, giving the Race Committee a bit of a headache.

The Beneteau Owners Weekend is a fun event with the main aim of raising funds for the RNLI, whose valuable work saves lives at sea. The event raised over £1500 for this good cause.

The Beneteau Flyer 6 has been exceptionally well received in 2015. The Flyer 6 SpaceDECK started off 2015 winning the MotorBoat & Yachting Starter Boat Award in January 2015.

AWARD WINNER

The success continued as the Beneteau Flyer 6 won a further award, as winner of the category up to 25 feet at the European Powerboats Awards. Six completely different concepts fought it out in the small class for boats measuring up to 25 feet with the Flyer 6 Triumphing. The Jury’s verdict was that the Beneteau Flyer 6 is versatile for new boat owners with superb trailer handling.

The Flyer 6 offers three different versions: SpaceDECK, SportsDECK or SunDECK with all versions sharing the Air Step® hull and an attractive price/performance ratio in the up to 25 feet category.

2015 LAUNCHES


2015 has seen the launch of several new Beneteau’s from the range. The year started with a fourth time Beneteau Owner taking delivery of his First 25s, which he was pleased to be able to participate in the 2015 FYS Beneteau Weekend.

With three hand overs in France in the summer including an Oceanis 41 and Oceanis 45 plus the East Anglian Sea School’s 40 Love, a superb example of the Carbon First 40. The EASS took delivery on the west coast of France, with a shake down sail to the UK then competing in the Fastnet - An exciting start for her!

GYPHON II COMPLETES CIRCUMNAVIGATIONCongratulations to Chris and Lorraine of Gyphon II who have recently completed their circumnavigation over 5 years, onboard their Beneteau 423.

Fox’s Yacht Sales were pleased to help support them whilst they were in far-flung places, including supplying them with new standing rigging whilst they were in Malaysia.

Chris and Lorraine are enjoying some time the UK and are looking forward to their next adventures.

Beneteau announced their new models for 2016 at the annual meeting. Including the new Oceanis 41.1, MC6, Flyer 8.8, Swift Trawler 30, GT46 and Showcasing the GT40.

FOX’S YACHT SALES OPEN WEEKEND 2015FYS had a successful Open Weekend over 23 -25 October 2015. The weekend went well and gave people an opportunity to view the Brokerage boats, as well being able to view some of the new Beneteau’s including our super new Beneteau Oceanis 35, and Barracuda 7.

Fox’s Marina and Boatyard were available to offer advice and discuss boatyard requirements from Engineering to refit work. Dolphin Sails were present to discuss sail and cover requirements.
