Among the Foundation’s top advancements have been in improving child and maternal health, environmental sustainability, gender equality, and youth empowerment. Close alliances with the Principality of Monaco, the African Union, record-breaking athlete Sophie Denis, and others have contributed to the success of the Foundation’s work in 2010. Executive Director Claudia Abate set the bar high in January when she accepted the 2010 Global Citizenship Award for Leadership in Helping Humanity from Orphans International. According to Jim Luce, Founder and CEO of Orphans International, “Claudia epitomizes through her work with the Foundation for Post Conflict Development the type of thoughtful leader and global citizen that we hope not only the children in our care, but all children globally, will aspire to.” The report details how the Foundation has strived over the past year to turn concrete action into international development that furthers human rights. Through the building of two maternity clinics in Timor-Leste, the Foundation is reducing maternal deaths, thereby decreasing orphans and strengthening the upbringing of hundreds of children. The Reforestation and Family Income Project assists families from a nutritional angle by creating kitchen gardens and diversifying food crops, fish ponds, and coffee shade trees. Through this endeavor, families living in poverty are able to increase their nutrients, earn a living, and help the environment. Youth have been extensively targeted in programmatic initiatives, both as groups which give back and as those who receive assistance. The Monaco Boys’ Choir, under the patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, raised funds for a youth center in Timor-Leste through concerts spanning the East Coast of the United States. Youth centers provide pleasant, safe outlets where minors can be actively engaged. Such centers prevent young people from falling prey to violence or participating in vandalism as a result of boredom and a lack of employment, education, and economic mobility. records for mountain climbing, recognized the impact of the Foundation’s efforts to assistyouth. The annual report discusses how the Foundation and Denis aim to create youth centers

in 6 different communities.

Other noteworthy events include the Executive Director’s chairmanship of three roundtablediscussions at the United Nations Global Compact Summit and the membership of the FPCD to

the United Nations Academic Impact.

“2010 was a year full of wonderful opportunities to work with local communities and otherpartners to cultivate sustainable, positive change,” says Abate. “Each day we are encouraged

by the progress stemming from the work that we have done before, and this inspires us to do so

much more.”

The Foundation for Post Conflict Development (FPCD) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofitorganization associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information dedicated toassisting post conflict countries with projects essential to their reconstruction, including

projects concerning the environment, maternal health issues, youth, war veteran issues, and the

creation of meaningful employment and cultural preservation. Through direct education, actionand development (or the promotion of global partnership for such efforts), the FPCD’s mission

is to fulfill the Millennium Development Goals set forth by the UN. The FPCD’s landmark
