As part of our Pro-Life programming, I would like for our Council to revive our food pantry collection in support of the St. Thomas More University Parish Food Pantry. Not only can this can help us to meet the programming re-quirements and meet eligibility for a pos-sible rebate from Supreme councils, but it also gives us the opportunity to prac-tice our corporal works of mercy by feeding the hungry within our Indiana community. I ask that you please bring non-perishable food items to our council meetings every 2nd Wednes-day of every month. Please contact me via email ([email protected]) or phone (724.422.3905) for more details.

Dear Brother Knights, come let us adore Him! St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish holds Eucharistic Adoration every Tues-day from 12-7p and on First Fridays from Thursday even-ing at 7p to Friday morning at 10a. In upholding our sa-cred traditions and glorifying the presence of the Eucharistic Christ, the exposed Blessed Sacrament must never be left alone. We have a schedule of hourly time slots to assure continuous adoration, yet at times, some people end up sac-rificing two or more hours so that our Lord is not left alone.

As Brother Knights, I ask that you please consider becoming the guardian of Christ during an hour long time slot that best suits your schedule. Time slots that are in most need of guardians are as follows: Tuesdays: 4-5p, Thurs-days of “First Fridays:” 7-8p, Fridays of “First Fridays:” Midnight—1a, 1-2a, 2-3a, 3-4a. If you are not able to com-mit to an hour time slot each week, I still ask that you prayerfully consider spending some personal time with God!

Those Brother Knights who are interested may contact me via phone (724.388.7188) or email ([email protected]) to schedule your time to Guard Jesus!

4TH DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION IN HONOR IF INDIANA, PA SIR KNIGHT An exemplification of the 4th Degree was held in honor of the late Sir Knight Jim Federline, father of Chaplain Fr. Tom Federline in Mons, Belgium on 1 December 2018. Knights of Columbus Father H. Timothy Vakoc Assembly #3373 (a European assembly of the Knights of Columbus) hosted the exemplification of the Patriotic degree and con-sisted of Catholic gentlemen from the Overseas Military District #1, Father McGivney Province. This province is made up of one 4th degree assembly and nine individual councils from Belgium, England, Germany, and Italy. Sir Knight Jim Federline was not only a parishioner at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus in the Fr. McNelis Council #1481/Assembly #968, but also World War II veteran in 78th Lightning Divi-sion. Eternal rest grant unto him, and let perpetual light shine upon him!

INDIANA KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS MARCH FOR LIFE On Friday, 18 January 2019, 40 members of Indiana, PA churches, including St. Bernard of Clairvaux and St. Thom-as More University Parishes, made a one-day pilgrimage to Washington, D.C. to protest the 1973 Roe v. Wade deci-sion to legalize the abortion of babies in the womb. This year’s march was the largest on record and included appear-ances by Vice President Mike Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence, Abby Johnson (former clinical director of Planned Parenthood and author of the pro-life book Unplanned), and Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. President Don-ald Trump also had a pre-recorded message that was played for the participants of the rally where he vowed to veto any federal bill that did not honor the dignity of unborn children or that would increase funding to Planned Parenthood. Bishop Edward Malesic and Fr. Don Conroy greeted pilgrims from the Diocese of Greensburg along the route of the march. Brother Knights who took the bus trip included Brs.: Don Hogan, John Avolio, Bill Ager, Michael D. Kostick, Kevin Buggey, Dave Lieb, Ed O’Sullivan, Sal Maugeri, Dan Minor, and Jason Strack.

February is here and with it we get ready to prepare for pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training, the Penguins making a run towards another Stanley Cup, and of course Lent and the Holy Triduum! Additionally, the Knights of Columbus #1481 Pancake, Egg, & Sausage Breakfast is back this month. Our last several breakfasts have been big hits with the parishioners of St. Bernard of Clairvaux and St. Thomas More University Parishes, and this would be another great opportunity for us to reach out to potential new members!

Our Pancakes+ breakfast will be held on Sunday,

17 February, at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church after both the 8a and 10a morning Masses. Volun-teers are needed to set up, cook, serve food and drinks, bus tables, and clean up. Sign-ups will be available at the February Council meet-ing or you may contact Br. Greg Zawrotney via cell (724.349.2509). Please invite your family and friends to attend. All donations are appreciated and the event benefits the charitable programs conducted by our Council.

As Catholics, we are asked to abstain from meats on Fridays, specifically throughout the liturgical season of Lent. Therefore, what a great opportunity we have each Friday after Ash Wednesday to eat fish and support St. Bernard Regional Catho-lic School! Additionally, our annual “Knights’ Night at the Fish Fry” will be held on Friday, 22 March. We will once again show our support for St. Bernard School by having Brother Knights staff the serving line, watch the drink tables, bus and clean dishes, and help clean up afterwards. It is always an en-joyable evening with Brother Knights, students from the school, and Indiana community members! You can sign up at the Feb-ruary Council meeting, or contact me via phone (724.422.3905) or email ([email protected]).

Of course, help is always welcome at ALL the fish fries. Set-up starts on Friday mornings and help with the fish fries begin at 3:30p. Please check with the school via phone (724.465.7139). Dinners are served on Fridays, beginning 8 March through until 12 April, from 4-7p. Brother Knights, I ask you to please sup-port St. Bernard School's biggest fundraiser by attending the fish fries with your family. Also encourage your friends to come as well for a delicious meal. We receive many compliments as we are seen “in action” supporting the school and church!

The Holy Family models for us what family life should exemplify. It is a school of virtue for both parents and children. There we find God, and learn how to connect with Him and with others. The family is where love is freely given without self-interest. It is where we learn to love, to pray, and to practice the gift of charity. Pope St. John Paul II said, “The family, more than any other hu-man reality, is the place in which the person is loved for himself and in which he learns to live the sincere gift of self” (Nov. 27, 2002).

We should ask ourselves if our own families model that of the Holy Family. We need to be open to God’s grace to value the positive and to accept our mistakes; and to be willing to rectify them. Parenting is a very challenging re-sponsibility and at times errors are made despite the best intentions. Recognizing this, children should trust their parents and never forget that they want only what is best for them.

This leads to be the most important family virtue: for-giveness. Living so intimately within the family nucleus naturally gives rise to unpleasant situations where some-one is apt to be offended. St. Paul knew this when he told us to “bear with and forgive one another.” The health of our family may depend on how quickly we learn to for-give without harboring feelings of resentment.

No family can thrive and grow without constant work. Even the material details that take time

and effort are essential to keeping the family strong. Eve-ryone has to pull together for the good of the family; even to the point of putting ahead of our own needs and ambi-tions the happiness of other family members, setting aside our own selfish desires.

It is also important to pray as a family, especially the holy rosary. Prayer will help us to intensify our closeness with each other and to learn to forgive.

February is Dedicated to the Holy Family

The Catholic Diocese of Greensburg will be holding their inaugural "Men's Conference" on Saturday, 30 March 2019, from 7:30a-3:45p at Greensburg Central Catholic High School. Even though this conference is hosted by the Catholic Diocese, it is open to any men, of any Christian creed, who are at least 18 years old. "The Well" is an opportunity for men of faith to "come and be renewed" while attending interactive and thought-provoking breakout ses-sions geared towards our uniquely masculine relationships with God, our friends, and our families. Bishop Edward Malesic will serve as presider and celebrant throughout the conference. Additionally, the Keynote Speaker will be former Notre Dame and NFL star Mike McCoy!

The cost of the conference is $25 if pre-registered or $40 at the door, HOWEVER financial support is available for those in need! Please do not let money stand in your way of time with Jesus Christ and fellow Christian men!

Please visit dioceseofgreensburg.org/thewell for a complete listing of breakout sessions and activities that are availa-ble throughout the day and to register for the Conference. I pray that you each will take this opportunity to grow stronger in your faith! SK Tom Pearson
