L E A R N E R W O R K S H E E T
A F R A C T I O N M U S I C A L !
THE SEMIBREVE
This is worth four beats,
and so is a whole fraction. or
THE MINIM
This is worth two beats,
and so is a half fraction.
THE CROTCHET
This is worth one beat, and
so is a quarter fraction.
THE QUAVER
This is worth half a beat, and
so is an eighth fraction.
A dot is often added to notes to make them last longer. Tofind the value of a dotted note we must add the value of thenote (without a dot) and the value of the note that is half itslength. In this example of a dotted crochet, we need to add acrochet and a quaver.

For the pieces of music below, work out where you should draw bar lines to make each bar add up to 1.
Example:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
M A K E Y O U R O W N M U S I C !
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Some of these pieces of music are missing notes. Work out what fraction is missing and add some notes
to make the bars add up to 1 again!
