ASTERisk - Background

The planning of controls on pesticide stores and farms organized by Regional Local Health Units (ASL) in Italy is not homogeneous and is not tailored on local specificities.

This entails a less than efficient use of time, human resources and budget, but above all, a less effective risk assessment and prevention for human health and the environment.

ASTERisk - Introduction

What is it?:

ASTERisk is a free tool, a suite of different databases which is able to read and interpret Regional information about pesticide loads yearly sold in Lombardy Region within Local Health Units (ASL) areas.

Functionalities:

The tool provides indicators to estimate the pesticide risk in groundwater, it assesses the pesticide risk for operators and the pesticide risk for consumers in the Lombardy Region.

Users:The tool is addressed to Regional Agency/Unit operators in the Lombardy Region.

Aims:

ASTERisk helps to define the planning of controls on pesticide stores and farms by drawing up lists of the most ‘risky’ pesticides for groundwater (environment), Consumers (population), and Farmers (operators).

Portability:ASTERisk may be exported to other Regions or realities.
