On Sunday, June 4, we will celebrate The Feast of Pentecost, commemorating
the coming of the Holy Spirit and the Birthday of the Church. You can help us
decorate the Sanctuary for morning worship
by wearing red, orange and yellow.
A Message to FAUMC
Family and Friends,
During the Sundays in the month of June we continue
at Francis Asbury with our "Giants of the Faith" Series.
June 4th - David
June 11th - Noah
June 18th - Abraham
June 25th - The Servant Girl
May our faith be inspired and strengthened through the lives of
these biblical characters, who were giants of the faith but they
were down to earth people who had feet of clay, like us. It just
goes to illustrate that God can and will use any and all who will
make themselves available to His call!
Also, observed in worship at Francis Asbury UMC:
June 4th - Pentecost Sunday - The birthday of Christ's church!
June 11th - Trinity Sunday - We serve a Triune God -
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; Recognition of Graduates
June 18th - Father's Day
June 25th - Annual Conference Sunday at Lake Junaluska
(Pastor Michael will be preaching at FAUMC on this Sunday)
A fellow servant in Christ,
Pastor Michael

CAMP
MEETING DAYS
at FAUMC
July and August
We are calling the Sundays in July and August “Camp Meeting Days” at Francis Asbury UMC.
It is a time for dressing more casually for warmer summer
weather. It is also a time for singing many of the ole time
Gospel hymns and songs. We hope to have a men's chorus and a
ladies' chorus as well. And, it has been mentioned that a couple
of these Sundays we may have "Lemonade on the Lawn"
(in the Courtyard). Hope you will make an effort to attend
these nine (9) Sundays during the summer season; again,
which we are calling “Camp Meeting Days” at FAUMC.
The family
of
Connie Brown,
Sister of Rusty Brown, who passed away on May 21.
Our Deepest Sympathy & Christian Love to this family.

Enka School District Summer Feeding Program for Children Last year, Francis Asbury UMC
participated with 3 other groups in feeding children
living in Mountain Ridge Trailer Park (#2 Misty Mountain Way) in Candler.
Our church covered Tuesday and 1090
meals were given out to children living at that site last year.
We begin the feeding again on
June 13-August 15. Volunteers are needed to pass out meals
on Tuesdays from 11:30-12:45pm. Two people can do it easily.
Books are provided for the children to take and read over the summer to
keep their reading level stable.
This is indeed a much needed outreach ministry as these
children qualify as a poverty pocket in the Enka School District.
Many of these children attend Sand Hill Venable Elementary
School.
Sign-up sheet in the Penley Room. Contact Robert McCain
with questions at (828) 231-6140.
ROOM IN THE INN

innkeepers, open & closers, food preps, etc.
If you would like to help with RITI in some capacity, please contact Peggy at 665-7877.

Director of Family and Children's Ministries
Recently we had four (4)
resumes sent our way as
concerns FAUMC's advertised part time position of Director of Family and Children's Ministries. Of the
four received, three desired full time employment. The fourth candidate
decided to go another direction. Therefore, the position remains open
and unfilled. We continue to pray about and seek to fill this position.
If you know of anyone who might be interested please contact
Veronica Crook or Pastor Michael. Prayer Shawl Ministry
Do you know a friend or family member who could use some extra love? Prayer Shawls,
as well as instructions and prayers, are available in the
Penley Room. Please write down your name and the purpose for the prayer shawl so we’ll know the lives these shawls are touching.
We raised $250 for our Prayer Shawl Ministry at our Silent Auction on May 7. Many thanks to
Friends & Fiberworks for the donation of the beautiful wraps & shawls that were auctioned. And thank you to those who purchased wraps & shawls in support of this important ministry.

Enka Middle School Ministry Update
As the 2016-2017 school year comes to a close, we want to thank everyone for your investments of
time, talent and treasure in our
partnership with Enka Middle School. Together we aided
the school by:
· Providing Bed-in-a-Box sets to 5 students who had no bed, and often no home, of their very own.
· Collecting Box Tops for Education to support the school.
· Sponsoring a family at Christmas by donating gifts.
· Collecting 251 school items for students to begin the school year.
· Preparing lunch for school staff members twice, (fall and spring).
· Providing staff appreciation “treats” monthly.
· Providing personal encouragement and prayer support to two teachers monthly through a “Partner in Education” relationship.
· Providing funds for breakfast food for a new small group of at risk boys. This group is supervised by a school counselor and the school social worker.
· Promoting School Homework Diners and other activities with flyers on the tables at Welcome Table.
· Having FAUMC members who work at the school and who volunteer with the PTO and Communities in Schools Community Resource Team.
We look forward to our continued ministry with Enka Middle School. What a gift to partner together to help change lives here in our
Enka/Candler community!
