The work of the 20th century’s preeminent American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, has inspired the world for more than a century. Even with all the iconic images, like any great work of art, it must be experienced in person. Millions travel to tour the small number of Wright-designed buildings accessible to the public, but the vast majority of Wright buildings are private residences out of reach to even the most ardent architecture enthusiasts.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy, a nonprofit founded in 1989 to facilitate the preservation and maintenance of the nearly 400 remaining Wright structures, is the only organiza-tion to receive unprecedented access to private Wright houses in all parts of the country to conduct tours that inspire attendees to join us in our mission to protect Wright’s legacy.

Reaching out from a rocky promontory into Carmel Bay, the Walker House is one of the most unique among Wright’s 300-plus private houses. Designed in 1948 for Mrs. Clinton Walker, it is one of the only Wright buildings in a coastal environment. Its ar-row-shaped plan has a hexagonal copper roof resting on triangu-lar Carmel stone walls that resemble a ship’s prow projecting into the ocean. Its hexagonal living room is framed in reverse-stepped glass panels that afford panoramic views of the coastline.

The Conservancy is hosting a very rare tour of one of Wright’s most exquisite private residences, the Walker House.

A special evening reception limited to 25 guests on Thursday, Aug. 23 ($250 per person) will include a private tour of the house with hors d’oeuvres and fine wines enjoyed on the prow as the sun sets into the bay. A truly unforgettable experience.

Small group tours on Friday, Aug. 24 ($125 per person) allow a personal experience of the house.

Join us for this special event to be inspired by the work of one of the greatest architects in history, with all proceeds supporting the important work of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy.

Attendance is strictly limited. For questions call the Conservancy at 312.663.5500 or email [email protected].
