Participation in identifying needs Practice wisdom – Edward De Bono’s thinking hats

Creative thinking on making a film

Yellow hat - Why – • Could Teach people who we are how it feels to be in other peoples shoes – “Do you get

money from the government” “ I wouldn’t be so broke if I did. The movie will help other foreign people feel less alone.

Black Hat - Criticism - • Don’t trust Irish weather, People will think we are looking for sympathy, We must work

cross- border even if we don’t get on – A lot of commitment.

Green Hat- Being creative - • Families involved, traditional clothes, languages, music, atmosphere, background bonfire,

Dancing, think of both places, beaches, ocean, hot country, horses, farms, chickens, surroundings here, ghetto’s, airport, cargo ships how we actually feel we are being treated.

Understanding Youth Leadership in a Diverse Society

• As our community has become more multicultural and diverse, we at Donegal Youth Service have recognised the lack of participation from minority communities in Youth Club settings – both from young people and Adults volunteers.

• In order to respond to this need, during Phase 1 of the Peace III Plan, we piloted a new programme “Youth Leadership with Diversity” which incorporated the delivery of OCN Level II Youth Leadership with non accredited Diversity workshops which explored sectarianism, labels & stereotyping, as well as accessibility of the clubs themselves to ‘Other’ communities who are resident in their area.

Understanding youth Leader continued • During Phase II of the Peace III programme, we

aimed to re-write this OCN in its’ entirety and create a new OCN Accredited Programme entitled “Understanding Youth Work in a Diverse Society”.

• This programme includes the NYCI ‘Diversity Toolkit’ and is accredited at Level 2 with 9 credits

• Donegal Youth Service aims to roll this training out throughout the County in the coming years.

• 42 Volunteers have completed this training to date
