“Pretty Wren”

This is a Superb Fairy Wren. Female I think or young male. They are very small. It was happy to dance around on the fence posts in the car park for a while and I got to take quite a few shots and this was my favourite one. Since taking this image I now have a good collection of photos of the little Fairy wrens as they are very addictive.Taken at Shoreham Beach about 4.30pm the light was good and was a cloudy rainy day the background in this image was the beach. Taken in June this year.I have a Nikon D5300 it is a entry level camera. And used my Tamron 18mm-400mm. Taken hand held at 400mm was close to the subject so didn’t need to crop the image. ISO 400 F9. Photo was taken in raw and processed in light room.

A cold and windy month outside the last few weeks, but a great

opportunity to get out there and take some great wave and ocean shots as the local area and bay was knocked around by the weather.

The club enjoyed good attend-ance at the weekly meeting with some interesting presentations and concluding the month with an image appraisal night, thanks to our members Gail Penny, Bob Date and Peter Dwyer who all gave excellent comments and tips on improving the images shown.

Thanks also to the members who came along with images ready to present.

So who won the Tri Club this year, Frankston of course, congratula-tions to the club and to the mem-bers who contributed images for the annual competition.

The individual results are listed here in this Newsletter.

On August 11th David Harradine

will be presenting a seminar on Intermediate to Advanced Light-room in the club rooms, this is an excellent opportunity to learn from an expert on Lightroom and to learn more of how to use this programme to process and prepare images for presentation.

Cost is $55 per person and includes teas and lunch, book via the club website and pay on line to enjoy a day with David and Lightroom.

Coming up through August again some great presentations and advice on improving your images including a special presentation by Master Photographer Ian Rolfe who will present on shooting the Ele-ments a good intro to the October monthly competition subject.

Around town there are many exhibitions and opportunities to see great photography including the AIPP/APPA awards 25th to 27th August at Melbourne Olympic Park,

Daytime Group

Last month the day group’s excur-sion to the Australia Garden

was attended by 15 members. The weather had been cold and wet on the days prior to the event, but on the Wednesday the sun shone and the wind dropped. At present the New Holland honeyeaters are very busy pairing up and feasting on some of the hakeas that are flow-ering and this presented some great opportunities to capture the doing what they do… flying, feed-ing, fighting and as I was told flirt-ing. Hopefully some of us managed to get some good photos that will appear at our next meeting and in competitions later in the year. For anyone that is unfamiliar with the garden it is at its best from Sep-tember to January and offers lots of photographic opportunities.

Our next meeting will be at the Frankston Library in the Long Room on Wednesday 15th August at 10:00 am for a 10:30 start. Peter Colverd is giving a presentation on restora-tion of old photos, something that will be of interest to most of us. As usual members will bring a number of their images from the Australia Garden excursion to show and if they wish, invite comment on how the could be improved.

Rod Carruthers and Debbie Walsh have been looking at accommoda-tion options at Phillip Island for our three day trip there in November. Mark the 18th to 21st November down in your calendar.

witness the live judging of a range of subjects and see how the pro-fessionals score with their works as they are displayed directly after each judging round.

Entry to the AIPP awards is free and a really enlightening and inspir-ing experience.

See the link here 2018-venueThe event also incorporates a

trade show by the leading Camera and Equipment providers, another good reason to visit.

As the weather hopefully improves we can get back out there and keep building on our skills and images.

Tri-Club 2018The competition for the TriClub Trophy was hosted by Pakenham this year. Frankston was successful once again continuing an unbroken run of twelve years since the competition was inaugurated. Compared with last year's close call, when we drew with Pakenham, it was reasonably comfortable win. We finished with 362 points (up 2 from last year) with Pakenham on 342 points (down 18 from last year) and Berwick on 340 points (down 10 from last year). But as you can see from the scores, and the note below, we can’t afford to be complacent next year.
