Frequently Asked Questions on Solution Explorer Abstract: The document contains frequently asked questions about the Solution Explorer. OneWorld®, JD Edwards 5, & PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne 8.* 17 th November 2003 Question: What is the Solution Explorer? Answer: The Solution Explorer is an interface that has been created to replace the OneWorld® Explorer starting with the release ERP 9.0. Solution Explorer is automatically installed as part of any OneWorld® Xe or ERP 8.0 installation (light bulb icon), including standalone. Training courses are available and for additional details on those classes, your client manager should be contacted. Question: Is there a simple way to print all Tasks in expanded tree form or is there a simple way to expand all nodes instead of clicking the plus sign for every node (like pressing * key on the num pad for window explorer ) or is there already a report that does this? Answer: Currently there is no way to expand all nodes within the Solution Explorer and a report for printing the Tasks is not available. In order to create a report, design a custom report with F9000 - Task Master/F9001 - Task Relationship and verify that the Task detail is in the F9006. If it is not, the Task is enabled. If it is, check whether it is active or not. Meaning the Task is enabled/disabled for a specific Role. An enhancement SAR was entered in for this issue. The SAR number is 5163044 . Question: If you secure Fast Path, then FindIt! will also be secured. Is there any plan to separate them ? Answer: FindIt! has been designed to allow the Task to be launched directly from within FindIt!. Due to this design flexibility, their is no choice but to secure the client from it since it is basically a Fast Path with a search capability. Question: When a new Role has been defined (i.e. added to UDC H95/RL) all Tasks within any Role based Task View are visible to that Role. Is there a setting that can make it work the other way ? Answer: This is currently working as designed. When you add a new Role, it may allow access to all Tasks, but the Role has not yet been assigned to anyone. Therefore, it doesn't really matter. Once you have created the new Role, then you can either use 'save Role' and save it to be just like a similar Role, then make your changes, or you can apply the Role and manually go through and hide/show the different Tasks using FineCut. Question: What table stores the Role Assignments to Users and Role Assignments to Tasks? Answer: The available Roles within Solution Explorer are stored in the UDC table H95/RL. These values are stored in the F0005 User Defined Codes table. The F95921 Role Relationships Table stores the relationships between Users and Roles. The primary keys in the F95921 are: Member Member Of Effective Date To create, delete or modify a Role and to assign a Role to a User, you use the User Define Codes application (P0004A) and the Work with Role Relationships (P95921) The Role Assignments to Tasks are stored in the F9006 table. Setup Solution Explorer Security to View only on all options. When right clicking the apply Role option becomes apply Variant. If this is selected, the Apply Role form (P9035) is opened and the User is still able to apply a Role, why? Answer: This issue is reported on SAR 5035608. Question: At the Internet homepage, when choosing a custom Task View, the Task View explorer tree View is blank. Choosing the same Task View again the causes the Tasks to be populated, why? Answer: This issue is reported on SAR 5004385. Question: Is there a way to copy the Role Assignment of a Task View to a new Task View? Role Assignments were made to a Task within a Task View and they would like to have the same setting for a new Task View. Since the Send-to option will not copy the disabled Task, is there a way to do it? Answer: When a Task within a Task View is assigned a Role, that Role is only applicable for that Task. When you move a Task to a different parent Task (for example, in a new Task View), the Role is no longer applicable - you would have to reassign it. The same sort of functionality as 'Copying' a Task View Role Assignment can be accomplished using the "Save Role" (Role-based Task View) or "Save Variant" (non-Role-based Task View) functionality. This will not generate a new Task View, but it will save the state of the Tasks within that Task View as a new name that you can access via "Apply Role" or "Apply Variant". Question: Why does Solution Explorer hang when selecting a Task View to be shown ? Answer: Make sure the ActivEra queue in the Media Object Queue application P98MOQUE is setup correctly. Question: A User was setup to see one Role based Task View using Solution Explorer Security but when the User logs in, all Task Views are gone, why ? Answer: Make sure in Solution Explorer Security, all the options are checked. The engine will interpret the Security settings incorrectly if some options are not checked. Question: How do you apply Variants to Role based Tasks? Answer: This feature is not available and is reported on SAR 5022209. An Override feature will be available beginning in SP16. Question: How do you copy a Task ? Answer: This feature is not available and is reported on SAR 5022090. Question: Sent a Task to another Task View and made the Task run a different version. Why does the Task in the original Task View have the change as well ?

Answer: When you send a Task to another Task View, the Task that is referenced in each Task View is the same Task in the F9000 table. Only a record in the F9001 indicates that the Task is now part of the new Task View as well. If you do a show properties for that Task in each of the Task Views, the Task id is the same, indicating it is the same Task. So changing versions on the Task in one Task View will also change it on other Task View. To define differences for the Task, you will have to insert a new Task into the second Task View. In SP16, an Override feature has been introduced that allows a Task to run a different version. Question: How can I prevent a User from dragging and dropping a Task? Answer: This can be accomplished by setting Security on the User or Group. Choose the option for Solution Explorer Security in Security Workbench and then set the option to "View" for Solution Explorer. An option of View in Solution Explorer Security will prevent the User from being able to drag and drop a Task. Question: After setting up Tasks as secured based, I cannot log onto Solution Explorer. Answer: SAR - 5536841 Fixed in SP18 - until then, do not make Favourites Secured. Favourites are User based, and are really designed to allow the User to create their own custom Task View from the Tasks that are granted to them via Role setup. Question: I have undocked my Favourites or Fast Path, and now I cannot get it re-docked, what do I have to do? Answer: Sometimes you can undock the Fast Path or Favourites, and they won't go back to normal. In order to fix this, you have to delete the 'summary' entry in the windows registry at the following Path:

• Start | Run | regedit | HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JDEdwards\OneWorld®\Solution Explorer\Settings.DEMO\EXPLR

Question: Security used to be automatically applied for the User if they didn't have a Security record. Why did it change to allow everything until a Security record is added? Answer: When Solution Explorer was first implemented, the system was not passing a value stating that there was not a Security record. In order to be more consistent with our other Security settings, beginning with SP18, it is being changed to allow change authority on everything until a record is added in Security workbench. (SAR 5614298) Question: When I add a new Task, it is made available to all Users. Is there any way I can change or prevent this from happening? Answer: Enhancement SARs 5683314 and 5194001 have requested additional functionality. However, there is a manual way to do this while adding a new Task.

• On the Task revisions form, select the menu exit for Form • Select Roles • A green check indicates that it should be displayed for that Role. No check indicates that it should not be

displayed. Question: What will happen to my Tasks during an upgrade?

Answer: For the logic in our new Content Update process, we will save the customer-created relationships. The logic is as follows:

• We only delete Tasks from F9000 if they are not used in any relationship. Therefore, the F9001 merge is ran first. Then the F9000 merge will be ran. At the customer site, F9001 merge will delete the J.D. Edwards relationships, but not any of the customer created relationships. The F9000 merge will scan the Task in F9001. It shouldn't be there unless the customer has added it to a relationship, in which case we don't delete it, only J.D. Edwards-created relationships will be gone.

Note: F9000 contains Tasks; F9001 contains Task relationships. If a client adds a Task to a Task View, they are creating a relationship in the F9001 table. If they define a brand new Task, it will add an entry to the F9000 table. Version changes for JDE Tasks are not saved during an upgrade Task merge process. The two columns in the F9000 table that won't be replaced during the upgrade merge process if the User has made changes are TMLNGTASK and TMTASKACT. Customers will only lose their changes to a JDE Task if the upgrade includes a change to that Task. Otherwise, it will be left alone. An option for the customer is for them to copy the Task to a new Task. Or, create a new Task that is identical to the Task they wish to save. In SP14 and up, you can use the CTRL key and the mouse to drag-and-drop a Task which copies the Task and creates a new relationship for it (i.e. creates a new record in the F9001 table). The upgrade merge procedure first checks the F9001 table and if there is a User-defined relationship in there for the Task, then the Task will not be deleted from the F9000 table. Another option is for the User to define their own Task View to store their modified Tasks. They can use the right mouse button and choose "Send To" to copy the Task to their own Task View - this also updates the tables preventing a loss during the upgrade merge process. One word of caution is that the reason version information, etc. is not maintained if we are sending out an update to a JDE Task is that there is some sort of change that we felt was necessary for the Task; this could hurt the User's modified JDE Task - for example, if the application inputs changed or ??? Question: What does the naming convention in Solution Explorer mean? Answer: “JDE” was used for the implementation approach Task View and the set up and configuration Task Views. We used JDE just to distinguish that they were Tasks that came from the "factory". We just put in the prefix JDE into the Next Number Processing Option choice and let the numbers default. “BPM” is created automatically when a Task is created from the Solution modeler. They are created with those super long numbers because of the way that they are generated to not ever duplicate a number. “RBM” were ones that we manually created because they were parent and other Tasks that showed up on the Role Based Menus. In general, you will see a ‘RBM’ Task as a parent to a ‘BPM’ Task or Group of ‘BPM’ Tasks because of this. Question: Why does Solution Explorer continually prompt for me to save my changes even if I haven't made any? Answer: SP18 5605501 SP17.1_F1 5727751 SP18.1 5743348 Question: How do I create a shortcut in Solution Explorer? Why don't my OneWorld® shortcuts work in Solution Explorer? Answer: In OneWorld® Explorer you can create a shortcut by right clicking on an application, and then selecting create shortcut. However, any shortcuts you have created in OneWorld® Explorer will not launch in Solution Explorer. This happens since the shortcuts in OneWorld® are pointing to the menu tables, where as, the Solution Explorer Tasks point to the F9000. Therefore, the shortcuts will have to be recreated using the Solution Explorer. Here are the steps for creating a shortcut in Solution Explorer.

1. Locate the application in the tree structure 2. Highlight the Task

Page 5: Frequently Asked Questions on Solution Explorer - … Asked Questions... · Frequently Asked Questions on Solution Explorer ... F0005 User Defined Codes table. ... We just put in

3. Go to the menu exit for Edit 4. Select 'Create Shortcut'

Question: If I remove an Object from a Role, the User still has access to the Object if they have already added it to their Favourites. Answer: SAR number 6385651 has been entered for this issue. Question: Executing exe Tasks after R9000c conversion. (Ex. UTB, SAW, etc.) Answer: Need to modify the executable tab within the Task revisions. The format should be as follows:

• Executable • Directory • Parameters • Example: • utbrowse.exe • c:\b7\system\bin32 • blank

or, if executing Internet Explorer:

• iexplore.exe • c:/program files/internet explorer/ • www.peoplesoft.com

OneWorld® Explorer would allow Users to enter everything on one line. However, in Solution Explorer, it needs to be entered into it's individually defined lines. Question: How to print the Task View List in Solution Explorer? Answer: We do not have any JDE reports that can be run to print off the list. However, here are the steps to print the Task View:

1. Open Solution Explorer 2. Go to the desired Task View 3. Expand all of the layers that you want to View. (Note: The screen print is only a sample, the print out will

include everything that has been expanded.).

4. Once you have them all expanded, select the menu exit for File | Print 5. Print it either to paper, or if you have a file printer setup, you can print it to that, and then View it via

notepad. Below is an example of what you will see once you print this out. As you can see, it shows what type of Task it is, and what it is set to launch.
