It has a simple mission: help students who work and study hard to succeed by offering free college tuition. It is called the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program or OHLAP. If a student’s family income is $55,000 or less at the time the student applies, they qualify. Once you qualify you are eligible to receive OHLAP if you remain qualified at the next income check (FAFSA-Senior year of HS). They will do an income check using your FAFSA every year of college. You may go in and out of eligibility depending on income. Once you reach college eligibility, the income amount is $100,000/year. The money for college may be free, but there must be effort by the student. This program requires students to take and pass specific high school courses and keep up their grades. If a student (or family) thinks they might qualify, you must apply by the end of the 10 th grade. Please visit www.okpromise.org for more information or to apply. You will need your previous year’s tax return in order to complete the application. BUILDING A RESUME Your Freshman year is a great time to begin accumulating items for your resume. Keeping track of accomplishments and activities is an important job in high school. Ideas of items to track: 1. Awards/Recognitions: if you win a speech contest, compete for FFA, FCCLA, sports, etc 2. Activities: if you take part in ANY organization or activity (does not have to be school related) 3. Community Service: make a note if you volunteered your time for the community, school or church. 4. Work: if you work a job of any kind, make note! Employability is a great addition to any resume.

The Homework Club

Starting Sept 30th, The Homework Club located at the Fairview Nazarene Church will begin meeting from 3:30-5:00PM Monday through Thursday! The cost is $5/week.

The Homework Club is a group for children and adolescents (grades 4+) who require extra support with their homework. The Homework Club gives students an opportunity to work on their academic and study skills. Students are assisted by volunteer helpers.

Students arrive around 3:30 PM after school and are fed a small snack. They spend a few minutes eating and socializing, then they get to work. When homework is finished, students can read a book or will be provided other age appropriate educational material.

For more information please call Ashley Chance at (580)744-9757 or pick up an application at FHS.
