A new and exciting venture for all young jazz musicians in Hampshire. Working in partnership, Hampshire Music Education Hub and Barton Peveril Sixth Form College are combining to launch the Hampshire Youth Jazz Café, a first for the county. The Jazz Café will enable young jazz musicians (18 and under plus grade 5 and above) in Hampshire to experience an authentic ‘jazz jam’ atmosphere. Dan Franks has been living and playing music in Hampshire for over 10 years. He has been involved in teaching in primary and secondary schools, as well as playing in jazz and orchestral ensembles since 2005. Prior to this he worked for Holland America Cruise Lines travelling the world playing music. Dan has studied guitar with Dr Martin Taylor MBE and with Dave Cliff (of Trinity College and Birmingham Conservatoire). He also regularly performs in shows, musicals and bands across the south of the UK and recently completed a PhD in Jazz History.

Bryan Postlethwaite is a graduate of York University where he studied composition with Nicola LeFanu & Roger Marsh and jazz piano with Nikki Isles. He won a scholarship to study at the prestigious postgraduate jazz performance course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Bryan graduated from Guildhall with distinction having studied piano with Simon Purcell and composition and arranging with Scott Stroman and Pete Churchill. He was a member of the nationally acclaimed Guildhall Big Band and during this time, he was lucky enough to perform with jazz legends Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone and Dave Liebman. Bryan is an active jazz / pop musician and performs regularly with some of the best musicians in the South. Bryan is a Lead Practitioner and currently splits his time between being Head of Music at Wyvern College and Associate Music Teacher at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College. Bryan teaches composition and harmony on the A-Level Music course at Barton Peveril and leads the Jazz and Popular Music performance course.

Simon Allen is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, Simon has played saxophone professionally for over 20 years, appearing with top Pop artists such as Jamie Cullum, Beverley Knight, Robbie Williams and Gloria Gaynor. Simon is also a renowned jazz musician and appears regularly at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London. He records solos for TV and radio from his home studio and is Head of Jazz at the Purcell School of Music. Simon also teaches on the Pop and Jazz course at Barton Peveril College.
