During the week, there will be lots of activities linked to promoting well-being, which will include: yoga (have you completed the consent form?), first aid and mindfulness (although the latter two activities may span other weeks), our Healthy Tuck Shop and #HelloYellow day. This weeks homework also has a well-being theme. Please do check the letter sent home for further information (its also on the school website). We are looking forward to a very happyweek. We wish her well in the future. We were very proud of their positivity and commitment. Thank you also to the other teachers in the school who released their own teaching assistants as required. A very successful week all round. Midday Assistant We are still looking to recruit additional Midday Assistants to join our lunchtime team for 2/3 days per week. If you are interested in this vacancy, please contact Mrs Byfield, in the School Office for further details. Thank you. JACKET POTATO LUNCH YOU ARE INVITED TO A JACKET POTATO LUNCH AT CHRIST CHURCH ON: THURSDAY 28th November 12NOON - 2PM Various fillings available. Suggested donation £4 including a drink. Money raised will support the work of SMB (Schools Ministry Billericay) Homemade cakes on sale too! After-School Clubs and Inclement Weather As the weather seems to have taken rather a permanent turn for the worse, I thought it might be helpful to remind you (and reassure Year 3 parents) that we dont cancel clubs at short notice due to poor weather. We have inside alternatives which can used such as the hall and classrooms. Colchester Castle Last Friday Year 4 had a fantastic day visiting Colchester Castle where they got to explore the museum and hunt for the answers to their quiz. The children loved seeing all the different artefacts from the Roman empire and exploring the underground tunnels which was the highlight of the day. They also enjoyed the opportunity to be Roman architects and build their own roundhouses and villas. Year 4 would like to thank all the parents who helped on this trip.

Next week is, unbelievably, the final week of this half-term! As per the letter sent out on 7th October, we are once again organising a special healthy-schools themed week, which will focus on Well-Being. During the week, there will be lots of activities linked to promoting well-being, which will include: yoga (have you completed the consent form?), first aid and

week’s homework also has a well-being theme. Please do check the letter sent home for further information (it’s also on the

with her family. We wish her well in the future.

Girls’ Football On Wednesday afternoon we took two teams to the Girls’ Football Partnership Finals at William De Ferrers School.

There was an air of excitement amongst the girls as for many of them it was the first time representing the school at foot-ball. The B team lost their first game and then went unbeaten in their final four games and finished 9th overall. Some of the

girls were disappointed with their position but everyone present was extremely proud of them to go four games un-

beaten! The A team won all of their group games 2-0 which saw them qualify for the final. It was 0-0 after extra-time which then took the girls to a dreaded penalty shoot out. Thanks to

some great saves and excellent penalties, Buttsbury A won the shoot out and go on to represent the partnership at the County

Final – an amazing achievement. Thank you to everyone who came along to support the girls and assisted with transport.

Afternoon Tea We hosted another lovely Afternoon Tea on Thursday

which was attended by the children who are Number 4 on their class register. The range of work to choose from is getting more diverse and the children enjoy listening to others chatting about their work. I particularly love the comments made by older children as they reflect back, happily, on completing that piece of work themselves.

Year 6 Football - Parish Cup Last Friday afternoon saw Buttsbury play their first game of the

Parish Cup at home to Long Ridings. Buttsbury started the better of the two teams with some slick passing and solid defending and when half time arrived they were 3-0 up. After half time, Long

Ridings put the Buttsbury goal under increased pressure and eventually they managed to break down our defence to score a

goal. Buttsbury then picked up the pace of the game once again and went on to score a further two goals and the match finished 5-1. An

excellent and well deserved win for the boys who now progress into the second round of the cup. Thank you Mr Nation for

refereeing the game and to Mr Graves, our team manager/coach.

Shakespeare Comes Alive for Year 6 On Wednesday, Year 6 were joined by the Young Shakespeare Company who performed a production of Macbeth as part of their Literacy work on stories from

our literary heritage. As well as being part of the audience, the children were actively involved in many of the scenes as actors, which included taking on the

role of Banquo’s son, King Duncan’s sons and also acting as very scary murderers! The children helped create the atmosphere of the

witches’ entrance by creating the sound effects of the bears, wolves, wind and rain. Each group also then learnt a section of the witches’ opening speech. A highlight for all of the children was definitely the slow-motion battle between Macbeth and Macduff where they performed as soldiers in each army. The

children thoroughly enjoyed the performance and it has most definitely inspired them with their writing.

Inter-house Cross Country This week saw the arrival of our annual inter-house cross country event. All the

children competed within their year groups and showed great determination

and resilience! No one gave up and everyone tried their very best. Year 3 Winners: Panthers

Year 4 Winners: Lions Year 5 Winners: Lions

Year 6 Winners: Leopards It was very close overall too with the competition being won overall by the

Panthers. Well done to everyone who took part -

you were fantastic!

Buttsbury’s Official Christmas Card As you may recall, all the children’s Christmas card designs were entered into

an internal competition to decide which one would be this year’s official school Christmas card. Our competition judges found the task impossibly hard

as the quality of all the cards was extremely high. However, after much discussion, they selected the design by Ruby Toll (6F) to be sent to the

printers and made into our official card! Well done Ruby!

50 Things To Do Before Leaving Primary School Well done to: Hugo Daniels who has completed 10

things at home! Congratulations to Caitlyn Rae and Maisie Burcombe who have completed 20 things!

Dodgeball Tournament Yesterday afternoon, 16 children from Years 5 and 6 competed

in the Billericay Family Dodgeball event at Mayflower High School. The teams had been training hard and this was evident in their confident and focused play. Our A team played very well and won all their matches bar one, which they drew. Our B team

also played extremely well, demonstrating great commitment and determination. Overall our A team won the tournament and now progress to the Partnership round and our B team finished

in 5th place. Well done to all our players and thank you to Miss Pretty and Miss Roe for accompanying the teams and to Mr Mynard, our

coach. Good luck in the next round!

Parking Problems Please can I once again remind you not to park on the hatched lines at the front of our school and at the front of Buttsbury Infant School. Please also be

considerate when parking and don’t block driveways or garages. This is a particular problem in Bush Hall Road

and Springfield Road. Thank you.
