NEW DELHI, Feb 12:
More than 30 years after theanti-Sikh riots, a SpecialInvestigation Team was set up bythe Government today for con-ducting a fresh probe into allcases relating to the pogrom inDelhi and some other states.
Senior IPS officer PramodeAsthana will head the three-mem-ber SIT which will also haveRakesh Kapur, a retired districtand Sessions Judge, and KumarGyanesh, Additional DCP withthe Delhi Police. The SIT willsubmit its report within sixmonths.
An order on setting up of theSIT was issued by the HomeMinistry this evening, officialsources said.
As mandated under its termsof reference, the SIT will re-investigate all serious criminal
cases of anti-Sikh riots of 1984,examine records of all police sta-tions where the riots had takenplace and also examine the find-ings of the Justice S D Jain andJustice D K Agarwal Committee.(PTI)
