Parading on the West Bank, New Orleans’ Most Talked Of Club (NOMTOC) is sponsored by the Jugs Social Club, which was organized in 1951. In addition to entertaining mem-bers and guests, the Jugs give generously to youth groups, schools, and numerous com-munity civic programs. The size and quality of the procession have steadily grown since the inaugural 1970 parade of six floats, one posse, and a half-dozen bands. NOMTOC’s membership includes men and women. www.nomtoc.org

King Barry Charles Guy Sr. and Queen Rae’Lyn Denise Fazande lead NOM-TOC’s 48th annual Carnival parade. The theme of the 25-float procession is 300

REASONS TO LOVE NEW ORLEANS. The 650-plus members will ride floats with subjects such as Storyville, Marie Laveau, and Tricentennial, all celebrating New Orleans’s 300-year anniversary. NOMTOC employs a unique and commendable tradition—the Jugs Social Club sponsors two academic student leaders from each participating school and allows them to ride in the procession as guests of the krewe. WVUE Fox-8’s Kristi Coleman will be the grand marshal. Celebrity guest rider is New Orleans Saints player Bradley Colemen. The NOMTOC procession traditionally includes more than 100 units, including several out-of-state bands. Members throw many krewe-logo items, in-cluding purses, medallion beads, and fidget spinners. The ball is set for January 20, 2018, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

The theme of the 39th annual procession, which will be led by the Archbishop Rummel Marching Band, is TREASURES OF THE SEA. Floats will depict

subjects such as Octopus’s Garden, Davy Jones’s Locker, and The Mermaid’s Treasure. Roy-alty for 2018 are King Centurion XXXIX, Anton Peter Yrle, and Queen Centurion XXXIX, Betsy Anne Fischer. The 17-float parade features a special Magnolia School float and a Ladies Auxiliary float and traditionally features more than 50 units. March-ing bands will participate in the Rhythm on the Route band contest. Signature items to be tossed by the krewe’s 300 male and female members are foam swords, cups, lighted bracelets, and anodized doubloons in purple (captain), green (officers), and silver aluminum (krewe). The Centurions Celebration ball will be held on January 20, 2018, at the Landmark Hotel in Metairie.

The Centurions were a dedicated battalion of soldiers who led the legendary Roman armies into battle. Named after those storied warriors, the krewe was founded in 1979 by a group of Harahan-River Ridge business-men. After presenting its first two parades on Jefferson Highway, Centurions switched in 1983 to the standard Veterans Memorial Boulevard route. In 1988 the group changed its parade night from Tuesday to the second Sunday before Fat Tuesday, before moving to its current Friday evening slot. Centurions selects parade subjects that will entertain children. Members are active in community fund-raising projects.www.kreweofcenturions.com
