Neighborhood Exploration Bus Tours12:30, 2:00, & 3:30 PM | Buses depart from the corner of Woodlawn Avenue and 59th StreetStep aboard a bus with Chicago Detours, a tour company started by a UChicago alum, for a fascinating look at the history and architecture of campus and beyond. We’ll journey through the neighborhoods of Hyde Park, Woodlawn, and Jackson Park Highlands and discover exciting changes, including how the University is expanding its reach. Space is limited, but we will have two tour buses for each tour time. Tours are 75 minutes long. There is no pre-registration for the tours.

Woodlawn Ave.Take part in a self-paced tour of Rockefeller Chapel and its carillon, which is composed of 72 bells and 100 tons of bronze and is the single largest musical instrument ever built. Tours run continuously, with 25 guests allowed in the tower at a time. Keep in mind that the tour involves climbing 271 steps (roughly 10 stories), which may be challenging for some attendees. Rockefeller Chapel staff and trained carilloners will be available throughout the tour to explain the history and workings of the carillon, answer questions, and provide demonstrations. Spooky Storytime at 57th Street Books10:30 - 11:30 AM | 57th Street Books, 1301 E. 57th St.Ghosts and goblins of all ages are invited to 57th Street Books’ fourth annual Spooky Storytime! This lecture with Rabbi Anna Levin Rosen will explore how an active, engaged Jewish community can enrich students and the greater university. Mummies Night at the Oriental Institute4:00 - 7:00 PM | Oriental Institute, 1155 E. 58th St.Mummify our simulated mummy, take a mummy tour, or hear a mummy-tale. Craft a mummy to take home, compete in a Mummy Wrap Race, and catch a family photo at the Great Pyramids and with life-sized camel standees at our Photo Op. Play the game many a mummy has taken to his own tomb — Senet. And as always, in the galleries, King Tut’s monumental 17-foot-tall statue and our 40-ton Assyrian winged bull will lend a photogenic background for witches, vampires, monsters, princesses, or whatever your costume.

With this tale of a married couple navigating an experiment with polyamory, Reygadas doesn’t just invite an autobiographical reading—by casting himself and his real wife in the main roles, he practically demands one. University Symphony Orchestra presents The Halloween Concert7:00 & 9:00 PM | Mandel Hall, Reynolds Club, 1131 E. 57th St.The University Symphony marks Halloween 2018 with an assortment of musical monsters – some frightening, some friendly – from legends, fairy tales, and classic films.
