FRIENDLY LETTERS

How many of you have ever been away from home

and ever written to someone….maybe a grandparent,

friend, or parent?

Has anyone ever written a letter to a relative who

lives at a distance?

FRIENDLY LETTERS

Why are letters sometimes preferable to other means of

communication, such as telephone?

Cost

Time to think about and compose thoughts more accurately

Fun of getting mail

Ability to read the letter more than once

FRIENDLY LETTERSLet’s learn a little bit more about friendly letters while we watch

this video.

Take note of all the parts of a friendly letter. We will be writing

friendly letters over the next few days so pay close attention to the

format!

Friendly Letters Good and Bad.

On the handout, compare the two letters. Which one

is a better letter and why?

Make a list of Reasons why one is better than the

other at your tables.

Friendly Letters: correct form

Lets look at the form of a well formatted friendly

letter.

Let’s go through the questions for part two.

1. On what part of the page is the heading written?

2. How many lines are in the heading?

3. What do the first two lines of the heading contain?

4. What is indicated on the third line of the heading?

The HEADING is in the upper right hand corner of the letter. It gives the writer’s address AND the date!

1. Where does the salutation begin? What

The SALUTATION begins with a capital letter and ends with a comma. It is under the heading BUT aligned with the left side margin.

many other soldiers during world war II.

Soldiers getting injured during battle is a very real aspect of war

that happens.

Wounded Warriors Project is one example that shows you how

far helping soldiers and recognizing them can go. This video gives

you some insight into the things they do to help wounded soldiers.
