PROgRAM OVERVIEW:Nearly twenty-six million Americans, and more than one million in New York State, have kidney disease that has progressed to CKD Stage 3 or greater. In our nine-county area, there are more than 1900 people on hemodialysis. In the past decade, this number has doubled and is expected to double again in the coming decade.
This program will assist health care professionals to better understand the problems and challenges of CKD and how patients cope with their disease. A variety of issues relevant to the care of the patient with CKD and other health related problems will also be discussed.
lEARNINg OBJECTIVES:Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:
• Discuss the effects of obesity on CKD
• Help patients understand diet goals and how to organize diet to adapt
• Identify how patients cope with lifestyle demands and choices while living with CKD
• Evaluate drug dosing in the renal patient
• List the causes and medical treatments used to prevent recurrent kidney stones
• Explain the various aspects of organ donation
METHOD OF PARTICIPATION:Participants will attend the live symposium and submit a completed evaluation to the NKF staff. You must submit a completed program evaluation in order to receive a certifi cate of completion, which may take at least 4-6 weeks to arrive via mail.
TARgET AuDIENCE:This program has been designed to meet the needs of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, dialysis techni-cians, dietitians, and pharmacists.
