From our Principal
Congratulations to Seddon House for their winning efforts with Haka Waiata. The efforts from all the
houses are to be commended, indeed the judges commented on the high standard across all four
houses. It was fantastic to see so many families and ex students attend and support their houses.
On Friday we were very excited and honoured to announce Tutogi Nuuausala and Teariki Tafao Alofa as
our Head Students, supported by their deputies Fineasi Neiufi and Asinate Suluka. Our Prefect team was
chosen from an exceptional field of students and were awarded their badges during assembly alongside
their families.

Our Commitments
The behaviour focus for next week is on being supportive. This means more than just talking to our
children about treating others like they would want to be treated. It also means being supportive in
learning. School is, and should be challenging, the work must require thought, and mistakes have to be
made if learning is to happen. A key part of being supportive at Otahuhu College is based around
supporting each other in our learning, making mistakes and working hard to do better next time.

Curriculum and Study News
The focus this week has been on engagement in lessons. In class and assembly we have talked about the
importance of answering questions, asking questions, discussing the work and what is being taught in
class. It is great to see going around classes that students are getting better and better at this, their
written work is also improving, with answers showing greater detail and more thought. This is all really
good. An area we do need to work on is continuing these habits on into homework. Doing regular
homework is essential for students to succeed at the level they are capable of achieving.
