From the President…. Hello everyone, I hope you are fine even though Mother Nature does not seem to want to collaborate across the country. These are some of the situations over which we have no control and to which we must adjust. I am writing to you today to give you some news from your national organization. As promised at our last AGM, all committees held meetings in which there was very good and very constructive discussion. You will be able to see improvements. We invite you all to consult and use social networks to say and show what you do. This mode of communication has an inestimable power. Thank you to all the ambassadors who are already using them. At the time of writing, the majority of regions have already held their regional events and the quality of the finalists is extraordinary again this year. The Atlantic region is working hard to make the national event a success. I invite you all to register early, because your participation is for us a great source of motivation. A new idea this year is offered by one of our national sponsors. Sollio Ag, which is the agricultural division of La Coop fédérée, has hired a person who is currently studying communication to visit all the 2019 regional winners to make a video montage, including an interview with all these finalists. The final result will be presented to you in Fredericton and will be used by Sollio to promote our partnership and Canadian agriculture. This is a wonderful initiative and we sincerely thank the Sollio group for its involvement. This visit should be done according to the following schedule: - BC: James and Cammie Lockwood, around July 3, 2019 - Alberta: Dallas Green and Natasha Pospisil, around July 9, 2019 - Manitoba: Will and Jen Bergman, around July 16, 2019 - Saskatchewan Jason & Jenna Ranger around July 20-21,2019 - PEI : Justin and Laura Rogers, around August 20, 2019 The regions of Quebec and Ontario remain to be determined. I also want to inform you that a new sponsor / supporter, in the amount of $ 10,000, will be with us in Fredericton. This is the CN. CN is strongly involved in Canadian agriculture, mainly because of grain transportation and its presence throughout the country. We hope that their representatives in Fredericton will be charmed and their financial participation will increase to the level of national sponsor. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Angela Fox from Manitoba for her nomination to the prestigious "Motherwell" award. Her commitment to her region and to the organization as well as her drive make it a logical choice. Bravo Angie. In closing, I wish you all a beautiful summer season. Bonjour à tous, J’espère que vous allez bien même si dame nature ne semble pas vouloir collaborer un peu partout dans l’ensemble du Canada. Cela fait partie des situations sur lesquelles nous n’avons aucun contrôle et auxquelles nous devons nous ajuster. Je vous écris aujourd’hui pour vous donner quelques nouvelles de votre organisation nationale. Comme promis à notre dernière AGA, tous les comités ont tenu des réunions à l’intérieur desquelles il y a eu de très bonnes et très constructives discussions. Vous serez à même de constater des améliorations. Nous vous invitions tous à consulter et à utiliser les réseaux sociaux pour dire et montrer ce que vous faites de bien et de beau. Ce mode de communication a une inestimable force. Merci à tous les ambassadeurs qui les utilisent déjà. Au moment d’écrire ces lignes, la majorité des régions ont déjà tenu leurs concours régionaux et la qualité des finalistes est encore extraordinaire cette année. La région de l’Atlantique travaille fort pour la réussite de notre concours national. Je vous invite tous à vous inscrire tôt, car votre participation est pour nous une grande source de motivation. Une grande nouveauté cette année nous est offerte par un de nos commanditaires nationaux. Sollio Ag, qui est la division agricole de La Coop fédérée, a embauché une personne qui étudie présentement en communication pour faire la tournée de tous les gagnants régionaux de 2019 pour réaliser un montage vidéo avec une entrevue auprès de tous ces finalistes. Le résultat final vous sera présenté à Fredericton et sera utilisé par Sollio pour faire la promotion de notre partenariat et de l’agriculture canadienne. C’est une merveilleuse initiative et nous remercions sincèrement le groupe Sollio pour cette implication. C.N. est fortement impliqué dans la vie agricole canadienne, surtout à cause du transport de céréales et de sa présence dans l’ensemble du pays. Nous espérons que ses représentants présents à Fredericton seront charmés et que leur participation financière se hausse au niveau de commanditaire national. Je profite de l’occasion pour féliciter Angela Fox du Manitoba pour sa nomination au prestigieux titre « Motherwell ». Son implication pour sa région et pour l’organisation ainsi que sa ténacité en font un choix logique. Bravo Angie. En terminant, je vous souhaite à tous une belle saison estivale. From Across the Regions…….

Alberta/NWT: Well it’s been some interesting times out here in Alberta, while some of our friends down East are dealing with too much moisture, we are dealing with very dry conditions. In central Alberta, we finally got about an inch and a half of rain in the last couple of weeks which was a welcome relief for our crops and pastures. I feel so proud of our COYF family, I’ve noticed on social media channels all the positive and encouraging messages going back and forth across the country as we all battle different stresses, we are all stronger together and it’s reaching out and giving support and letting someone know they are not alone that helps during the trying times. So chin up everyone and keep on doing your thing. In terms of our region, we’ve had some sweet additions to our numbers. Nikki and Richard Brousseau welcomed a baby girl “Charlie” to their family in the fall and just a few short weeks after our Regional event, our newest honourees Natasha Popisil and Dallas Vert welcomed a baby boy “Ryker” to their family. Speaking of our Regional event, it was held in February in Red Deer, we had 4 couples in the running, a great turnout of our alumni, sponsors and special guests. We enjoyed having Luanne Lynn come out to represent the National Board and spend some time with us. We had a guest speaker

come in to talk to our alumni which was very insightful, we try and rotate speaker one year, field trip the next to keep things interesting. Karilynn Marshall once again planned and executed a great event that everyone enjoyed, we sure appreciate all her hard work, I can confidently say that our Region wouldn’t run half as smoothly without her. Both winners of the Martin Streef Scholarships happened to be from Alberta this year and so they were invited to attend our luncheon banquet. Daniel Stefner, who is attending Olds College drove up for the lunch and gave a lovely thank you speech, Emmett Sawyer was unable to attend due to midterm exams and the distance from school to the venue, but sent his appreciation speech which I read on his behalf. In terms of what is next, this coming weekend is Steve Snider’s annual Pig Roast, I still haven’t been able to make it out there but we are all always invited to attend, and one of these years I will finally taste that delicious pork. It has become an annual event that our newest honourees host the alumni summer potluck BBQ, and we are in the process of narrowing down the date for this July. It’s an opportunity for us all to see their operation but more importantly to spend some time together to strengthen friendships and give them the real feeling of what OYF is all about. That’s all from Alberta, I wish you all a super fun and safe summer with your loved ones and can’t wait to see you in New Brunswick!
L’Alberta a connu des moments intéressants, alors que certains de nos amis de l’Est ont trop d’humidité, nous avons des conditions très sèches. Dans le centre de l'Alberta, nous avons finalement reçu environ un pouce et demi de pluie au cours des deux dernières semaines, ce qui a été un soulagement bienvenu pour nos cultures et nos pâturages. Je suis tellement fière de notre famille JAÉC. J’ai remarqué sur les médias sociaux tous les messages positifs et encourageants qui traversent le pays alors que nous combattons tous des stress différents, nous sommes tous plus forts ensemble et nous nous efforçons faire savoir aux autres qu'ils ne sont pas seuls, cela aide en ces temps difficiles. Alors, ne lâchez pas et continuez à faire votre truc. En ce qui concerne notre région, nous avons eu quelques beaux ajouts à notre groupe. Nikki et Richard Brousseau ont accueilli une petite fille, nommée Charlie, dans leur famille à l'automne et quelques semaines seulement après notre concours régional, nos plus récents gagnants, Natasha Pospisil et Dallas Vert, ont accueilli un petit garçon, nommé Ryker, dans leur famille. À propos de notre concours régional, qui a eu lieu en février à Red Deer, nous avions quatre couples en lice, un taux de participation élevé de nos anciens, de nos commanditaires et de nos invités spéciaux. Nous avons apprécié que Luanne Lynn vienne représenter le Conseil d'administration national et passe du temps avec nous. Un conférencier est venu parler à nos anciens, ce qui était très perspicace. Nous essayons de faire alterner les conférenciers un an et les visites sur le terrain l’année suivante pour que les choses restent intéressantes. Karilynn Marshall a encore une fois planifié et organisé un grand événement qui a plu à tout le monde. Nous apprécions son travail acharné. Je peux affirmer avec confiance que notre région ne fonctionnerait pas aussi bien sans elle. Les deux gagnants des bourses d'études Martin Streef venaient de l'Alberta cette année et ont donc été invités à assister à notre banquet. Daniel Stefner, qui fréquente l’Olds College, s'est rendu en voiture pour le lunch et a prononcé un charmant discours de remerciement. Emmett Sawyer n'a pas pu y assister en raison des examens de mi-session et de la distance qui le séparait de l'école au lieu de la réunion, mais il a fait parvenir un discours de remerciement que j’ai lu en son nom. En ce qui concerne les activités futures, le cochon braisé annuel de Steve Snider aura lieu en fin de semaine. Je n'ai toujours pas réussi à y aller, mais nous sommes toujours invités à y assister. Une de ces années, je goûterai enfin ce délicieux porc. Il est devenu une activité annuelle que nos plus récents lauréats organisent le barbecue-partage estival des anciens et nous sommes en train de finaliser la date pour le mois de juillet. C’est une occasion pour nous tous de voir leur exploitation, mais plus important encore, de passer du temps ensemble pour renforcer les liens d’amitié et leur montrer ce que sont véritablement les JAÉ. C’est tout pour l’Alberta. Je vous souhaite à tous un été super amusant et sécuritaire avec vos proches et je suis impatiente de vous voir au Nouveau-Brunswick!

Ontario Greetings from Ontario! We hope you had a great winter and I am sure you are quite happy to see some warmer weather once again. Ontario has experienced an incredibly wet spring, and we are hoping for drier days so spring planting can be completed. We hope you have had a positive and productive spring! The OYF committee has been busy working on plans for this year’s 2019 Regional Event. The event will be taking place in conjunction with Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show in Woodstock on Tuesday, September 10th. Judging will take place in the morning at the farm show followed by a luncheon with honourees, alumni and sponsors. After lunch, honourees will deliver their presentations at the farm show and this will be an open invitation to farm show attendees. A dinner will take place at the Elm Hurst Inn in Ingersoll in the evening to celebrate our 2019 Honourees. We have a group of fantastic, diversified honourees this year and we are looking forward to learning about their families and farm businesses. The OYF Summer BBQ will be taking place on Tuesday, July 16th at Jordan and Alex McKay’s farm at Port Perry. OYF alumni are invited to attend for an afternoon of socializing and visiting. Salutations de l'Ontario! Nous espérons que vous avez passé un bel hiver et je suis sûr que vous êtes très heureux de voir une nouvelle fois un temps plus chaud. L'Ontario a connu un printemps incroyablement humide et nous espérons des jours plus secs pour que les semis de printemps puissent être terminés. Nous espérons que vous avez eu un printemps positif et productif! Le comité JAÉ s’occupe à élaborer les plans du concours régional de cette année. Le concours aura lieu dans le cadre du Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show à Woodstock le mardi 10 septembre. Le jugement aura lieu le matin à la ferme, suivi d'un diner avec les membres honorés, les anciens et les commanditaires. Après le dîner, les candidats feront leurs présentations à l’exposition agricole et ce sera une invitation ouverte aux participants à l’exposition agricole. Un dîner aura lieu au Elm Hurst Inn à Ingersoll dans la soirée pour célébrer nos lauréats 2019. Nous avons un groupe de candidats diversifiés et fantastiques cette année et nous sommes impatients de connaître leur famille et leurs exploitations agricoles. Le barbecue d’été des JAÉ aura lieu le mardi 16 juillet à et à la ferme de Jordan et Alex McKay à Port Perry. Les anciens JAÉ sont invités à participer à un après-midi de rencontres et de visites. Quebec : Hello everyone, This summer, our summer activity will take place in Matane at Johanne Dubé and Gilbert Beaulieu’s farm (winners 2001). And they will host us in great fashion! The event will take place over 2 days. Along with their operation, we will also visit a vineyard and a microbrewery. As they own a lake on their land, even fishing is on the agenda. No less than 45 people will be present. A lot of fun in sight! Before the start of the activities, the executive board will take the opportunity to hold a meeting. Bonjour à tous, Cet été, notre activité estivale se déroulera à Matane chez Johanne Dubé et Gilbert Beaulieu (gagnants 2001). Et ils nous reçoivent en grand! Le tout se déroulera sur 2 jours. En plus de leur entreprise, nous visiterons également un vignoble et une microbrasserie. Comme ils possèdent un lac sur leur terre même la pêche est au programme. Pas moins de 45 personnes seront présentes. Beaucoup de plaisir en vue! Avant le début des activités, le conseil exécutif en profitera pour tenir une réunion. Pour notre gala qui se tiendra mardi le 27 août à St-Hyacinthe, 4 finalistes se disputeront les honneurs. Ils s’agit de Sophie Girouard et Dominic Brie; production laitière et caprine, Martin Laroche et Marthe Lévesque; production laitière et acéricole, Simon Michaud et Mylène Bourque; production laitière et céréalière, James Thompson et Geneviève Grossenbacher; production légumes frais divers certifiés bio. C’est une soirée à ne pas manquer! La saison estivale est enfin à nos portes en espérant qu’elle apportera son lot de bonnes récoltes à tous les producteurs! Bon été à tous

Saskatchewan Greetings from Saskatchewan!
The Saskatchewan regional event was held on June 19 and 20 at the Farm Progress Show in Regina. It was raining in Regina, which was an absolute pleasure to see, because we’ve had a very dry spring this year.
We had the good fortune of learning about the farms of three excellent young farmers, who were nominees at this years’ event. The nominees ran very diverse and impressive farms, so the judges had a difficult task ahead of them. At our luncheon event, Jason and Jenna Ranger of Jaron Farms, Ltd. were named Saskatchewan’s Outstanding Young Farmers for 2019. The Rangers run a 10,700 acre grain farm near Shellbrook, SK.
We had a great crowd for our event, just over the capacity of our venue maximum of 230 people. The Saskatchewan Ag Minister, sponsors, industry representatives, family, friends and alumni were present. As always, alumni support was impressive, with many alumni attending the event. It’s always such a pleasure to connect!
We’re working hard on the initial planning and preparation for our National Event in 2020. We will be holding the event in Saskatoon and have some great ideas for our presentation in New Brunswick. Stay tuned!

Le concours régional de la Saskatchewan a eu lieu les 19 et 20 juin lors du Farm Progress Show à Regina. Il pleuvait à Regina, ce qui était un plaisir absolu à voir, car notre printemps a été très sec cette année. Nous avons eu la chance de nous renseigner sur les fermes de trois excellents jeunes agriculteurs, qui étaient les candidats au concours de cette année. Les candidats exploitent des fermes très diverses et impressionnantes, de sorte que les juges avaient une tâche difficile devant eux. Lors de notre dîner, Jason et Jenna Ranger, de Jaron Farms, Ltd., ont été nommés Jeunes agriculteurs d’élite de la Saskatchewan de 2019. Les Ranger exploitent une ferme céréalière de 10 700 acres près de Shellbrook, en Saskatchewan. Nous avons eu une grande foule pour notre concours, juste au-dessus de la capacité maximale de 230 personnes de notre site. Le ministre de l'Agriculture de la Saskatchewan, des commanditaires, des représentants de l'industrie, des membres de la famille, des amis et des anciens étaient présents. Comme toujours, le soutien des anciens a été impressionnant, de nombreux anciens assistaient au concours. C'est toujours un plaisir de se revoir! Nous travaillons d'arrache-pied à la planification et à la préparation de notre concours national en 2020. Nous organiserons ce concours à Saskatoon et nous aurons d'excellentes idées pour notre présentation au Nouveau-Brunswick. Restez à l'écoute!

Atlantic Hello from the East Coast, The Atlantic Committee hosted a very successful Regional Event in Moncton NB from March 8-9, 2019. The event was held in conjunction with the Atlantic Farm Mechanization Show and with Farm Credit Canada Ignite program. It was our largest event to date with over 100 attending the banquet. We had two very worthy nominees this year and we are happy to have Justin and Laura Rogers from Brae, PEI represent Atlantic OYF at Nationals this year. Our summer BBQ is planned for July 28 and will be hosted by Jessica and Steve Reeves and Andrew and Heidi Lawless at the Lawless’ farm. Plans are being made for our 2020 Regional event. It will be held in Charlottetown, PEI from February 21-22 in conjunction with the PEI Potato Expo and FCC Ignite. We are so excited to have our OYF family come to Fredericton New Brunswick in December to celebrate this years Honorees at the National event. The committee has been working hard and can’t wait for you to enjoy some east coast food, drinks and music. But most importantly we are looking forward to seeing you all again.
