National President’s Message :

Hello fellow Troopers, I would like to thank you all for allowing me to serve

as National President for the past eight (8) years. This association has been

one of my greatest joys, to work with and one I’ve grown to love. We brought

over a dozen new local chapters under the national umbrella, and we look to

increase these numbers as we continue to grow! We currently have our sights

on a National Home Office in the Fort Clark area in Texas, and hope to

finalize this venture as soon as possible. During the 145

TH

Anniversary

Reunion we will host our 1

st

Youth Summit, which will be exciting activities

for both young Troopers and parents! Our current membership has somewhat

declined in way of renewals, so we will began working hard within the

association to bring about new and refreshing ideals to build and retain

membership. During our Local Chapter Presidential Meeting, we will form a

“Think Tank” Communication approach, where we poll each Local Chapter

President for his/her views on how we can make the National more appealing

to younger individuals as well as retaining them. This year will be the end of

my tenure as National President, and I truly enjoyed working with you all and

serving for you in this capacity! You all are my “extended family” and I am

proud to say I am a Buffalo Soldier! I will, continue to work hard within the

association, and continue to strive for the 9

th

& 10

th

(Horse) Cavalry in order

for it to obtain the recognition it rightly deserves! “We Can; We Will”

steadily move this historical organization forward. May God bless each of

you, and bless this Association!

Sincerely,

Trooper Derrick G. Davis, National President

From the National President’s Desk:

Fellow Troopers & Ladies Auxiliary, as

we all prepare for our upcoming 145

TH

Anniversary Reunion in the beautiful city

of Birmingham, Alabama I hope you are

as excited for this year’s gathering as I

am! Your fellow Troopers Dr. and Mrs.

Burke, and LA Simmons have worked

hard to put together a wonderful reunion

you can be proud of! “The Magic City;

The City that changed the world; lest we forget” is this year’s

theme. The Alabama Chapter #1 will be very eager to share

their rich legacy with you this year. The beautiful city of proud

history and world-renowned hospitality awaits us all. I’m

certain this will be a reunion we will all love to experience and

will never forget! I would like to inform all the Troopers that we

will be hosting our 1

st

Annual Youth Conference this year. And

we ask members to please bring your young Troopers! This year

tours will include areas in the heart of downtown Birmingham,

including the Civil Rights Museum, as well as Jazz Museum.

As always, I look forward to seeing and fellowshipping with

you all and if there’s anything I can do you assist you in your

accommodations, please let me know. God Speed! And enjoy

yourself at the 145

TH

Reunion!

LA Chapter Report:

Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday and Black History Month presented the Los Angeles Chapter

with a very busy Buffalo Soldier schedule. Members of the LA Chapter were among the VIP

guests invited to meet Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta at a

flag retreat ceremony at Disneyland. When the American Legion National Commander,

Jimmie Foster, visited

American Legion Post

291 in Newport Beach,

CA, the LA Chapter

members were among the

special guests invited to

meet Mr. Foster. We

participated in the City of

Gardena's MLK Day

parade and we were honor

guests at the City of

Inglewood's 28th

Annual MLK Day

celebration.

When the City of Los

Angeles kicked off their

Black History Month

Program our members were among the honored guests, along with surviving Freedom Riders

and Professional Boxer Sugar Ray Leonard, to meet in the Mayor's office before the festivities

started. We've met Congresswoman Maxine Waters, actor William Young and Dr. Genevieve

A. Shepherd at the Our Author Study Club (OASC) Scholarship Awards Luncheon. The OASC

was chartered by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the father of Black History Month.

The NBA All Star game took place in Los Angeles in February and we had James Worthy, AC

Green, Brian Shaw and Tommy Hawkins stop by our booth at the Torrance Chamber of

Commerce Black History Month Program. At the Hugh Pickett Frontier 101 Invitational

Rodeo, actors James Pickens Jr. and William Pugh ( Harpo from the Color Purple) always drop

by our booth to say "Hi". The remainder of February saw us busy with multiple commitments

each week including programs for: Blacks in Government in Los Angeles, the U.S. Navy

Weapons Station in Seal Beach and the Delta's Sorority Black History Program in Pomona.

Trooper Bobby McDonald represented the Buffalo Soldiers at the Pentagon when he met Col.

Willie Harris, DOA Public Affairs Officer and received a VIP tour of the Pentagon. All in all,

it's been a very busy two months (Jan. & Feb.) for the LA Chapter.
