Greetings all,
After our long winter, I hope all are enjoyingsome time spent outdoors at barbeques, thepool or just taking a walk in the neighborhood.
To keep us all safe this summer, some quick reminders. Please watch your speed limit in the subdivision as littleones are biking, skateboarding and rollerblading their wayto the clubhouse.
Also, please keep your parkway trees trimmed.Sidewalks need to be cleared of low hanging branches forall our walkers. If you are in need of your parkway treestrimmed contact the City of Naperville and they will takecare of them.
Also, we have had a lot of complaints with residentsdumping their grass clippings, tree branches, and debrisinto the creek. This causes the creek flow to stop, leading topotential flooding issues and stagnate water and breedingground for mosquitoes. Please be respectful of yourneighbors and depose of your lawn and pet waste properly. All these reminders will help keep us safe and lead to ahealthier environment for River Run.
On a personal note, I can’t believe July is here and backto school is right around the corner! I’m wishing everyonea safe and Happy 4th of July holiday!

Keep Your
Flowering Plants
Looking Their Best
This spring has given us some glorious daysfilled with flowers. Now the goal is to keepthem looking their best. A little snip here
and there goes a long way.I like to step outside in themorning with my cup ofcoffee and a scissors orpruners. For someperennials it means cuttingback the spent flowers toan intersection on the stemnear the mass of leaves andwaiting for next year’sblooms. For otherperennials, cutting backencourages a secondbloom. While for others, like Calamintha andPenstemon, leaving themalone is best. The seedpods will look nice andoften feed the birds.
We call the process of removing spent flowers,dead-heading. A few of the perennials that will re-bloom after dead-heading are Daisies, Delphinium,Coral Bells, Salvia, Nepeta and some Daylilies.
Other perennial flowering plants will look muchbetter if the spent flowers are cut back to anintersection within the main body of the plant. Don'tjust snip off the spent flower or you will have emptystems. Some of the perennials that will not re-bloombut benefit from dead-heading are Peonies, Siberian
Forget-me-nots, Iris, and many Daylilies.Flowering shrubs that bloom in the spring
include Lilacs, Fragrant Viburnums, andRhododendrons are best pruned up to two weeksafter they finish blooming but no later. If you haven’tpruned them yet, it should still be okay as flowerswere a bit later this year. They set their flower budsfor next spring during this summer’s growing seasonso any pruning done in the summer or fall will affectnext year's blooms.
Annuals keep blooming most of the season andmany do not needanything but consistentwater and a bit offertilizer. There are somethat will benefit from alittle maintenance.Petunias will bloom moreif the spent flowers as wellas the seed pods areremoved down to theintersection. You can alsocut Lantana seed pods offat the intersections.Geranium flowering stemscan be snapped off whereyou see a bulge at theintersection. Otherannuals that bloom betterwhen dead-headed
include Marigolds and Cosmos.Speaking of water, be sure to water slowly and
deeply so that it soaks deep into the soil as soon as itdries out to encourages lush growth. But remember, some plants prefer it dry, so in that case, less is best. You can over-water by not letting the soil dry outunder the surface between watering so always checkthe soil before watering. A little mulch will keep theweeds down and the moisture levels more constant, but be sure not to bury the bases of plants in mulch.

The grocery store can be a confusing and oftenoverwhelming place with many differentproducts. Each product is marketed as if it is
the healthiest food on the shelf. Many people get socaught up reading nutrition labels that they can forgethow expensive some of these items can be. Here aresome tips on how to buy healthy foods that won’t breakthe bank:
Shop the perimeter of the grocery store for mostfoods. This is usually where all the fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy are stored. Many foods inside the aislesof the store are processed and usually cost more perserving. The food to choose inside the aisles would bedried beans, whole grain pastas, high fiber cereals, whole grain breads and nuts. The produce is cheapestnow, so take advantage of the variety at great prices.
Look on the top or the bottom shelves for thehealthy foods. Grocery stores usually make the mostmoney off purchases at eye level so the healthy foodsare slightly harder to find. Be sure to scan the entireaisle for the right products.
Make a list and stick to it.
Before you leave the house, make a list of the itemsyou need. A list makes it easier to focus on the foodsneeded to complete each meal. Also, if you go to thegrocery store hungry, it is very easy to deviate from alist, which usually results in extra grocery costs. Byplanning meals out for the week, the list will becomplete and you will have everything you need.
Shop at farmer’s markets or farm stands.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are a great find at theseever-popular shopping markets. Be sure to takeadvantage of these local hotspots because they are onlyopen part of the year, and they offer produce that isfresh, in season and cost-effective. (Frozen produce canbe a good winter alternative as long as it doesn’t haveadded sugar or sauces.)
Try to avoid pre-packaged items.
Although slightly easier to prepare, pre-packageditems are full of sodium and preservatives in addition tothe higher ticket price. For instance, the cost of a servingof plain rice out of the bag is about $0.10, whereas theboxed rice is about $0.83 a serving. It is moreeconomical to eat a plate of meat, potato, and vegetablesmade from scratch (about $1.80-$2.10 a serving) than itis to buy a frozen dinner (about $2.50-$3.00 a box onaverage).
Many people have the misconception that shoppingfor healthy items is too expensive. Consider that a bagof organic apples may be $3.99 or $4.99, containingabout 7 to 8 apples, while a bag of potato chips can be$3.50 to $3.99, as well, and usually only provides about2 to 3 realistic servings. The nutritional content andrealistic servings for each bag is drastically different, but the price is not.
When stores have certain brands on sale, theyusually offer the original item in addition to its healthiercounterpart. Cutting coupons is still a great way to saveyour money, too. Don’t forget that even the smallestsavings can add up. Saving $10 a week can lead up toover $500 savings in food costs over one year.
By taking a healthy look at the foods we eat, and bytaking a little time to pre-plan our meals and ourshopping list, we will serve more nutritious, economicalmeals.

MDPROACTIVESkip the Waiting Room . . .See a DOCTOR NOW!
Suffering from a sore throat, urinary tract infection,
rash or a cough? You know you need a prescription
from your doctor, but it is after hours. What do you
do? Wait for hours in the E.R. taking time away from seriously
sick patients? You hope Convenient Care is open? Both
possible, but expensive options.
Now there’s a new cure for your ills. Simply register at
www.MDPROACTIVE.com and receive the help you need
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This new idea allows you to get
help for common medical conditions within a few minutes.
You can send a message, photo or video chat with a board
certified doctor from the comfort of your own home or office.
T h e d o c t o r b e h i n d t h i s i n n o v a t i v e n e w i d e a i s
Narendra K. Garg, M.D., a White Eagle resident, father of three
and Naperville doctor for more than 20 years.
“This idea is perfect for a number of reasons.” he
explained. “Firstly, it works if you are sick and need care right
away, even if your doctor is closed. Secondly, it means you
don’t have to go to the E.R. They don’t want to see people
with common medical conditions. They are there to deal with
emergencies like heart attacks and broken bones. But, if you
don’t get treatment for something like bronchitis, it might turn
into pneumonia.”
Dr. Garg clarified that MDPROACTIVE is not for every
ailment. Visit their Website and you will see they deal with
suspected infections, allergies and rashes. The patient is asked
to register before giving a brief medical history and their
current symptoms. A doctor will look at the information and
within 5 to 10 minutes call in a prescription to your
pharmacist. If more information is needed, the doctor will call
you.
“Most antibiotics work within 48 hours so everyone is told
if they are not feeling better by then, they must call their own
primary care doctor once they are available.” he explained.
“We send a summary over to the patient’s doctor so they
know exactly what has been prescribed and what care has
been suggested. If your employer needs a sick note, we can
provide that, too.”
For more information visit www.MDPROACTIVE.com.
Here’s a great example ofhow the system works.
Maria (not her real name) woke up on Fridaymorning not feeling well. She was pretty sureshe had a urinary tract infection as she has hadthem before. She didn’t have time to be illbecause that evening she was flying out onvacation.
Imagine her dismay when she called her doctoronly to find he was out all weekend. The doctorcovering his patients was unable to prescribeanything and suggested she go to urgent care.
But Maria didn’t have time! By usingwww.MDPROACTIVE.com she was able to getthe medication she needed immediately.
“I was delighted when the prescription wascalled into the pharmacy within 10 minutes andthe consultation fee was only $29.95.”explained Maria.
“My vacation was saved. Dr. Garg even calledme a couple of days later to check on my statusto see how I was feeling.” she said.

Jeff Stainer is by far the best realtor I have evercome across. I read the other gushing reviews ofJeff here on Zillow, and my wife and I feel exactlythe same way. He knows the local market very welland I could not imagine a more responsive agent. He almost always answers calls, and in the veryrare instances when he can't, he returns the callwithin the hour. Sometimes, I wonder if the manever sleeps. He truly does work HARD to get yourhome sold at a good price. There were severaltimes when my wife and I wanted to reduce ourasking price, but amazingly, Jeff convinced us notto, forsaking an easier selling opportunity. He doeswhat is best for his clients, not himself. Believe it ornot, I've actually told him that he is working toohard for his clients. Along with being a great andvery professional real-estate agent, he is just a nicehuman being. He instantly becomes a part of thefamily. As happy as we are to have sold our home,we are going to miss working with Jeff. You willnot ever regret choosing Jeff to represent you.Bala and Alamu R., Naperville
I don't think I've met a person who has workedharder than Jeff did on helping us buying ourfamily home. We were referred to Jeff by a friendand after placing our first phone call to him, he wasover at our townhouse within 24 hours for ourinitial meeting. Jeff treated us like old friendsthough we had not met him and we knew rightaway we were in good hands. Jeff worked aroundthe clock for us and always responded to anyphone call, email or text we had within an hour. Most often he was reaching out to us first so wewere never behind in what was going on. Ourpurchase was not an easy one (issues not relating torealtor), but Jeff handled them with flying colors. He wouldn't take no for an answer if we cameacross a roadblock and did not give up until we gotwhat we wanted. There is no question in my mindthat we would not have gotten the house we did ifit were not for Jeff. I cannot say enough good thingsabout him. My spouse and I are so pleased andgrateful for Jeff! His work ethic is incomparable.Jim and Katie C., Naperville

after the 4th of July.As Arnold once said…I’LL BE BACK! That’s right, the Beer & Wine Festival will be back on Saturday, September
12th from 5:00 - 10:00 p.m. Additional details and sign up will be available in next month’s article. Because of the increased traffic flow through the outdoor pool, we have accumulated a large number of items which
have been left behind such as towels, swim glasses, water bottles, shoes, swimwear and much more. Please be sure tocheck the items on display at the lower level desk to see if any items may be yours. If any items are not claimed by theend of each month, we will be forced to donate the items to a needy charity.
Lastly, I would like to personally thank all of the members for their continued support and comments. As always, Iwelcome any suggestions as our goal is to make your clubhouse a destination for you and your family. Please keepreviewing your email as I will be sending updates on a weekly basis.
On a side note, I have heard a rumor that Saturday Night Movies “POOLSIDE” will be making a guest appearance inthe very near future. Stay tuned for more information.
NOW…….LET THE SUMMER REALLY BEGIN!Hope to see you soon, Mark
