From the Manager

A s July begins, the golf course is in great condition.

One of the wettest months of June in recorded history

did wreck our normal mowing schedules and kept us

from completing several cultural tasks that we would normally

complete, and identified some areas in need of additional drain-

age. Through all of that, our playing conditions have been

great, with the greens being out-

standing. My crew has repeat-

edly returned the course to great

shape after extreme amounts of

rain.

On a personal note, July 1 is

always a special day for me as I

began work at Twin Lakes on

July 1, 1985. This is my 30th

anniversary year. In the golf business, such a lengthy career at

one course is a rarity. Through the dedication of the Brown

family, who has owned Twin Lakes for 30 years as well, I’ve

seen the course change and develop over these many years.

On the course, we extended some drainage to a newly ap-

pearing wet area in the 15th fairway. Expect to see more drain-

age in the future. I hope to be able to get back to some vertical

mowing and aerification if the weather will allow. This past

month was a great test for the bunker drainage improvements

over the past two years. The drains worked great so we can

plan to add sand in the upcoming off-season. We certainly

hope that our cart path paving on hole six can get done this

month.

Please take the time to help keep the course great: Repair

your ballmarks (they are much larger and more damaging in

wet conditions), replace or fill your divots, rake bunkers, and

be responsible with golf cars and carts.

John Westermeier, CGCS

I hope this reaches you in good health and spirits. Summer

is officially here; hopefully dryer weather will prevail in

July. Despite all the rain the golf course is in great shape.

Please come out to enjoy your club!

Make sure to check the golf calendar. There are a lot of

fun events this month for everyone to enjoy. A few of the

events this month are: Men’s Twin Lakes Derby, Ladies

Friends’ Day; also, Junior Golf and Couples Golf continues

this month. If you have not been able to come out on a Friday

night for golf or dinner, please try to experience one.

We will not be serving dinner this Friday, July 3 due to the

holiday. Dinners will resume on Friday, July10. Please check

the homepage of the club’s website to view each week’s

menu. Remember, just because you don’t play in the couples

event you may still come for dinner. I hope you can attend the

Friday dinners and enjoy a great meal.

I would like to welcome all the new members and thank

their sponsors. If you see a new face, please introduce your-

self. It is our goal for everyone to experience a warm wel-

come to Twin Lakes. Since we have been fortunate to keep

our membership stable and have a successful membership

drive, this year we have a very minimal dues increase (less

than 2%). It is Twin Lakes continued goal to provide its mem-

bers with an excellent golf course and club operations at the

best value in the area. I wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of

July!
