From the Pastors Desk August 11th, 2019 This Sunday, we come
to the end of our
“Game Plan” message
series. Perhaps, at
times, some of us can’t
understand why God
would ever have a
“Game Plan” in mind for us. We say we’re too
young, we’re too old, we’ve lived too much life,
we have nothing to offer. The problem is, these
excuses are based on the premise that we see
our lives from a human perspective. What
would happen if we could see ourselves from
God’s viewpoint?
When we look at a child, we don’t think about
their past. When we look at a child, we think
of their potential and hope for their future. If
God is our Father, that’s exactly how God
looks at us, His children. No matter whether
we are 3 or 93, we all have potential. Wheth-
er we’ve walked a mile or traveled round the
world, we have more territory to cover.
Whether we’ve only worked one job or have
held a dozen, there is still more work to do
for His Kingdom.
Let’s not limit what we can do for the Lord
based on our own criteria. When we pursue
God’s Game Plan for us from His perspective,
there is still plenty of time left in the game.

A Faith Formation letter will be sent to our Faith Formation families the week of August 13th.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a comprehensive formation process into the full Sacramental life of the Cath-olic Church. It is both educational and Spiritual, designed to develop the whole person into the Catholic Christian faith. RCIA is for:
The unbaptized who are seeking admittance into the Catholic Church.
Those who are baptized in another Christian community and are seeking full communion in the Catholic Church.
Those Catholics who did not receive the Sacraments of Eucharist and / or Confirmation and desire full initiation into the Catholic Church.
RCIA classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm in the Mazzuchelli Center. RCIA classes will begin on Tues-day, September 17. Please contact Sister Cheryl at 563-263-3848 or srcheryl @marymathias.org if you are interested In RCIA.

50 Year Wedding Celebration At the request of Bishop Zinkula, the Office of Faith Formation is sponsoring a dioce-
san celebration for all couples who are celebrating fifty years of marriage this
year. (Couples that were unable to attend any prior celebrations are also welcome
to participate.)
A Mass and informal reception will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport
on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 2 p.m.
We will need the names and addresses for each couple who were married in 1969
(or earlier). A personal invitation from Bishop Zinkula will be sent to these couples.
We would like to have this list of couples returned to the diocesan no later then Au-
gust 23. You can provide us with your information by several ways first by calling the
parish office or emailing the parish office at [email protected] or by put-
ting your information in the offering basket by no later then August 23, 2019 so
that we have time to prepare the invitations.
Please support our Saints Mary & Mathias Catholic School by purchasing a
football Blitz ticket for our back to school fundraiser. Tickets will be on sale
after Mass in Gannon Hall. You may also contact any Saints Mary & Mathias
Catholic School family. Prizes are awarded weekly throughout the NFL sea-

Parish Building and Grounds Update
This September, the house
owned by the parish at 822
Pine Street will be demol-
ished due to extensive and
costly repairs needed to
keep it up to city code. The
parish purchased the prop-
erty in 2015 as recommend-
ed in the Parish Building and
Grounds Strategic Plan in
order to acquire additional
parking space. The house
was rented to tenants from
September 2015 to June
2019.

LA SANTA MISA DE HOY ES EN MEMORIA DE CRISTINA MEDINA
50º ANIVERSARIO DE BODA CELEBRACIÓN MISA
A petición del Obispo Zinkula, la Oficina de Formación de Fe está patrocinando una cele-bración Diocesana para todas las parejas que celebran 50 años de matrimonio este año.
Esto también es para cualquier pareja que no pudo asistir a las celebraciones previas.
Una Misa y recepción despues de la celebracion se celebrará en la Catedral del Sagrado
Corazón de Davenport el domingo 27 de octubre de 2019 a las 2pm.
Necesitamos los nombres y las direcciones para cada pareja en su parroquia
que se casaron en 1969, tambien de alguna pareja que no pudo asistir previa-mente. Se les enviará una invitación personal del Obispo Zinkula a estas pare-
jas.
Nos gustaría tener la lista de parejas devuelto no mas tardar el 23 de Agosto 2019 para que haya tiempo para preparar las invitaciones.
Este domingo, llegamos al final de nuestra serie de mensajes "Plan de juego". Tal vez, a veces, algunos de no-
sotros no podamos entender quién Dios tendría un "Plan de Juego" en mente para nosotros. Decimos que somos demasiado jóvenes, somos demasiado viejos, hemos vivido demasiada vida, no tenemos nada que ofrec-
er. El problema es que estas excusas se basan en la premisa de que vemos nuestras vidas desde una perspec-tiva humana. ¿Qué pasaría si pudiéramos vernos desde el punto de vista de Dios?
Cuando miramos a un niño, no pensamos en su pasado. Cuando miramos a un niño, pensamos en su potencial
y esperanza para su futuro. Si Dios es nuestro Padre, así es exactamente como Dios nos mira a nosotros, Sus hijos. No importa si tenemos 3 o 93, todos tenemos potencial. Ya sea que hayamos caminado un kilómetro o
viajado alrededor del mundo, tenemos más territorio que cubrir. Ya sea que sólo hayamos trabajado un traba-jo o hayamos tenido una docena, aún queda más trabajo por hacer para Su Reino.
No limitemos lo que podemos hacer por el Señor basándonos en nuestros propios criterios. Cuando perseguimos el Plan de Juego de Dios para nosotros desde Su perspectiva, todavía queda mucho tiempo en el juego.

RCIA (El rito de la Iniciación cristiana de Adultos) es un completo proceso de formación en toda la vida sacramental de la Iglesia
Católica. Es educativo y espiritual, diseñado para fomentar el desarrollo de toda persona en la fe cristiana católica. RCIA es para:
*Los no bautizados que buscan la admisión en la Iglesia Católica.
*Aquellos que son bautizados en otra comunidad cristiana y buscan la comunión plena en la Iglesia católica.
*Aquellos católicos que no recibieron los Sacramentos de la Eucaristía y/o Confirmación y desean la plena iniciación a
la Iglesia Católica.
Las clases de RCIA se llevan a cabo los martes por la noche de 6:30-8:00pm en el Centro Mazzuchelli. Las clases de RCIA comenzarán
el martes 17 de septiembre.

FE VIVA Y ACTIVA
CONSTRUCCIÓN Tenga en cuenta que hay construcción en la calle 8. La

PREPARACION PARA EL BAUTISMO
Para que su hijo/hija sea bautizado/a, debe hacer estas tres cosas (es conveniente hacerlo en esta orden):
1. Hable a la oficina parroquial al 263-1416 para asegurarse de que estén registrado en la parroquial.
2. Llame a la Hermana Cheryl al 263-3448 sobre las clases para bautismo en ingles, o llame a Maria al 263-1416 so-
bre las clases para bautismo en español. 3. Y por ultimo, llame a la oficina con Maria para escoger su
fecha.
Niños de edad pre-escolar (edad 5) o mas grandes,
que están en necesidad del bautismo, deben de hablar con la Hermana Cheryl, 263-3848. Las personas que
desean bautizar es la responsabilidad de ustedes de llamar a la oficina e informarse de las fechas para las platicas y días de
