The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. -Psalm 19:1-4 As I meditate on this Psalm, words seem to leap off the page. The heavens DECLARE THE GLORY of God – God’s glory is not hidden from our view. Just look up and you will see the heavens making a declaration about the reality and greatness of the One True God. So I join the heavens and sing, “How Great IS our God!” The SKIES PROCLAIM THE WORK of His hands – What can God do? Just look at what He has already done. He created the world and everything in it. His handiwork is everywhere, and it is mind-boggling to think that He formed the sun, moon, and stars. So I agree with Him when He proclaimed, “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” -Jeremiah 32:27 DAY AFTER DAY they pour forth speech – We have consistent reminders of God every day, everywhere we go. They are inescap- able. So I also pray, “Speak Lord, for Your servant is listening.” -1 Samuel 3:9 Their voice goes out INTO ALL THE EARTH – Everyone can get a glimpse of God’s glory. If anyone refuses to acknowledge Him, it is to their loss. If they deem this world a ‘coincidence,’ they show themselves fools. “The fool says in his heart ‘There is no God’.” –Psalm 14:1 This Psalm concludes with an appropriate prayer that I echo. “May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Would you agree?
