TERM 2 ISSUE 4 WEDNESDAY JUNE 19 2019
Dear Parents and Community Members,
MPPS Choir
The MPPS choir consists of over 40 students from years 3-6. Last year our students took part in the ‘Act
Belong Commit’ Massed Choir Fes*val and were very excited to have had the opportunity to perform at the
Perth Concert Hall. This year the choir will be joining the Massed Choir Fes*val again. We are currently busy
learning all of the interes*ng repertoire at school. The choir regularly performs at School Assemblies and
other important school events.
Earlier this week the choir had the opportunity to present two songs at the UWA Octagon Theatre for the
‘Children’s Sing Fes*val’. I would like to commend their performance and congratulate them on the manner
in which they represented our school. Thank you also to Miss Cleeman for coordina*ng the event and Dr
Adeline Tan for her piano accompaniment. Well done to everyone!
Naonal Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Commiee Week (NAIDOC)
The theme for NAIDOC week this year is ‘Voice, Treaty, Truth’.
Mount Pleasant Primary School will be celebra*ng NAIDOC Week during week 10
commencing Monday, July 1. Classrooms will be focusing on historical content,
cultural aspects and language of the Aboriginal people. This will culminate in a room
9 assembly with a special video showing highlights of the week.
Unwell Students
During the last few weeks and running into this week, we have been experiencing
high numbers of students not a:ending school because they been unwell. In
some classrooms up to 40% of students have been absent on any one day. The
absences have been as a result of several different ailments.
Of great concern however, is the fact that several students have been sent to
school quite clearly unwell. This places both staff and other students at risk. I
strongly urge you to keep unwell children at home un*l they are be:er.
Woolworth’s Official Opening
For your informa*on, Woolworths on the corner of Canning Hwy and
Reynolds Road will be opening for business on Wednesday, June 26.
The MPPS School Choir have been invited to open the official ceremony at
7:30am with the Na*onal Anthem. Parents are welcome to a:end.

By Elouise Liu.
Kim from SciTech told us all about things that glow, why they glow and how they glow.
The word ‘Bioluminescence’ is to do with when living things glow.
Fireflies mix liquids and gasses in their bo:om to create a glow.
Prism make a rainbow when light passes through them. I think it’s because it’s glass.
Fibre op*c cable is used to connect between various devices.
Well also learnt how people rescue other people in danger and what the rescue team
bring and wear.
In the CSIRO lab we used a microscope and took pictures of maggots, meal worms,
leaves and flowers up close using the microscope which was connected the computer.
