HOUSE ATHLETICS SPORTS We had a wonderful Sports Day last week and, with the weather being so warm, some fantastic organisational skills by our clever thinking Mrs Burke, it all went off without a hitch! A big thank you to all our parents and grandparents who came along to cheer all our sports stars on the day. The students really do get so much out of having you all there to watch them trying their best! Thanks also to all the CPS staff who got out in House Colours and ran the events, cheering with all the students. The students looked great in their house colours and many went to great lengths to ‘colour’ hair and faces to cheer their teams on. It was also fantastic to see so many parents and families also dressing in house colours to support their kids. The high spirit of the day was very evident and all participants ran, cheered and supported each other with Green House being our final winners. Congratulations to all the Houses for your wonderful sportsmanship and respect for each other on the day and the House Captains who did a wonderful job - we are very proud of your efforts. From the Principal continued... There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.

If for any reason your child must miss school (e.g. illness, planned holiday, etc.), there are things we can do together to ensure they don’t fall behind:

Speak with your classroom teacher and find out what work your child needs to do to keep up.

Develop an absence learning plan with your teacher and ensure your child completes the plan.

Remember, every day counts. If your child must miss school, speak with your classroom teacher as early as possible.

As off 2014, new laws mean that parents can be fined for not sending students to school without an acceptable reason.

If you’re having attendance issues with your child, please let your classroom teacher know so we can work together to get your child to school every day.

RECORDING YOUR CHILD’S ABSENCE REASON ON COMPASS It is extremely important that absence reasons are recorded accurately for future reference. To record your child’s absence please follow these steps:

Log onto Compass using your user ID and Password

From the Compass home screen click the ‘Actions for’ button for your child and select the ‘Add Parent Approval’ item

From the pop-up window select the reason from the drop down menu

Enter a brief description of the absence reason

Select the date, including the start and finish time

Click the ‘save’ button

PREPS START FULLTIME - TUESDAY 15TH MARCH A reminder to our Prep families that, following the Labour Day long weekend, all prep students are required to be at school on a full time basis from Monday to Friday. It gives us great pleasure to report that all our Preps have had a fantastic start to the school year. Thank you to those families that have bought their children in for our start of year Prep assessments; Mrs Harding has found the opportunity to sit and work with your children one-on-one to be extremely beneficial for both building relationships and getting a great understanding of where each student is starting their learning journey from. STUDENT SAFETY Thank you to 95% of students and parents who are using the school crossings. The start and end of the school day can be extremely busy times in Howard Avenue and Coleman Parade, with 165 students entering or leaving the school, many cars collecting students, not to mention the everyday traffic passing through our streets. By using the crossings provided, students and parents are ensuring that they are highly visible to motorists and crossing the road at a safe point, thus reducing the risk of injury or accident.

Don’t forget that we have Yinnar & District Sports next Friday and ALL students and staff will be attending, so send in permission slips and money as soon as possible. I hope you all make the most of the great weather we’ve been having over the weekend and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts….. See you next week,

You can help change a young life

for the better. And you don’t have to be a superhero or a

social worker to do it. You just need to be

someone who is willing to care for – and care

about – children.

If this sounds like it may be you and you

would like more information on becoming a
