FROM THE PRINCIPAL The next P&C meeting will be Wednesday, 12 February 2014 in the Staffroom at 6.00pm Volume 20 3 December 2013 Principal’s Report Dear Parents, The end of the 2013 school year fast approaches and this is the final newsletter for the year. There have been many calls for celebrations over the course of the year – our sporting achievements, our performing arts accolades, our award winning Indigenous Education program, our NAPLAN Improvement data, the launch of our new School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Program with Sarara Koala and most recently our School Opinion Survey data where 100% of parents surveyed believe that students at Bray Park State School are getting a good education and that literacy and numeracy skills are being well developed to equip students for the future. I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents, care givers and community members for the support you have provided for both students and the school as a whole. This morning we celebrated the work of our volunteers with a lovely morning tea. Many of our programs would not run without the support from the wonderful volunteers we have here at Bray Park – your contributions are greatly appreciated! 2014 Classes - We are currently working on classes for next year however, with the uncertainty of enrolments over the next couple of weeks and early in the new year, classes will not be drafted until the week prior to students returning to school. 2014 classes will be posted outside the tuckshop and the hall on Friday 24 January after 11.00am. As with every year, Day 8 is the time in which classes are finalised based on enrolments. When labelling your child’s belongings for next year, write only the year level. The class can be added at a later time. Uniforms - As most families will be organising uniforms over the vacation period, I would like to remind everyone that our uniform comprises our Bray Park polo shirt, plain black shorts/ skort, plain black shoes (laces/ velcro/ buckles), white socks and a plain wide brim black hat. Having consistency of uniform across the school creates a sense of school pride and school pride promotes positive behaviours. End of Year Events Please join us for the Best of the Best Awards to be held in the Hall on Wednesday 4 December at 1.00pm. These awards celebrate the achievements of students from Prep to Year 7. The 2013 School Dux will be announced along with the 2014 Student Leaders. Gold Assemblies Monday 9 December: Year 3 - 9.00am, Year 4 - 10.30am, Year 5 - 12.45pm, Year 6&7 – 2.00pm. STUDENT OF THE MONTH Congratulations to the following students on being chosen as ‘Student of the Month’ for November. You are a great example to the other students at this school and should be very proud of your achievements.

LIBRARY NEWS Book Fair Thank you to all the wonderful Bray Park families who supported our recent Book Fair. The school library was able to select $642 worth of books as our commission from the sales.

As part of our Book Fair, we help a guessing competition – Guess how many Readioactive Book Worms are in the Jar? There was only supposed to be 4 prizes, but several students guessed the exact amount of 121 worms so we gave additional prizes to those students. Prep A have certainly been working on their estimation skills!

The winners were:

Riley Smith - Prep A – overall winner – first person to guess correctly Sarah Escott – Prep A – correct guess Samuel Crabtree – Prep A – correct guess Jonathan Kerrison – Prep A – correct guess Madyson Ryce – 4C – correct guess Adrian Siilata – 4A – correct guess Lauren Adair – 3B – closest guess in 2/3 Mikaila Sauaga – 7A – closest guess in 6/7

Library Loans Student borrowing has finished for the year. All loans are due back to the library by Friday 6th December. Classes will receive notices regularly to remind students to bring back their books. Please help students find any books that may be stashed on book shelves at home. End of year fine notices will be issued in week 10.

SCHOOL BANKING We are changing to a new system over the holidays. The Commonwealth Bank has decided that you cannot carry your tokens over into the New Year. The new system commencing in 2014 will start every student at zero.

Our last banking day for 2013 will be Thursday 5th December. This will be your last opportunity to place an order with your tokens. If you don’t currently have enough tokens, place an order anyway with what tokens you have and we will give you the extra ones. We can only do this once per student.

At the start of 2014 all students will start with zero tokens. Please note that torches are now out of stock and cannot be redeemed.

CHAPPY’S CHAT I’d like to thank all the families who supported our chaplaincy program through our last Chappy Pancakes. We raised over $460 and we donated $400 to our friends at the PCYC Pine Rivers who have been running a variety of social and emotional programs this year. Our final fundraising events for the year are as follows:

*We will be selling poppers, water, snow cones and sausage sizzles at the swimming carnival on Tuesday 10th December with the Lawnton SS Chappy.

*We will be holding our annual Chappy Snow Cone Day on Thursday 12th December (Party Day). Snow cones will be $2 and teachers will bring their classes down at designated times throughout the day.

Thanks again for supporting the chaplaincy program this year – your generous support helps our kids!

Chappy Kirsty

SPARE UNIFORMS NEEDED The school’s Sick Bay is in need of some spare uniforms to use when the occasional accidents occur at school. Our stocks are low as clothes are often not returned to the school when given to children in emergencies. If you have any old uniforms that your children have grown out of, the Sick Bay would greatly appreciate the donation. It can be shirts, skirts, shorts, underwear etc. Thank you
